What a great week for Canada’s life sciences ecosystem!

We participated as a panelist at NGBI26, sharing perspectives on what it takes to help life sciences companies move from promising science to sustainable growth.

We were also excited to welcome the Life Sciences Ontario (LSO) Road Trip to SPEC Labs for a tour of our facility and a closer look at how we are building the infrastructure Canadian companies need to grow here at home.

At SPEC Labs, our goal goes beyond providing lab space. We support companies across the lifecycle by providing:

The conversations at NGBI26 and during the LSO Road Trip reinforced something we see every day: Canada has incredible life sciences talent and innovation. The challenge is making sure companies have the infrastructure, capital, talent and connections to scale here.

That is the role SPEC Labs is working to play; helping Canadian life sciences companies move from bench to business, and from innovation to impact.
Thank you to the NGBI26 organizers, Life Sciences Ontario and everyone who joined us at SPEC Labs this week. It was a privilege to be part of the conversation and to showcase what is being built here in Mississauga.

We’re excited to welcome Capule from University’s MS Biotechnology program to SPEC Labs!

As part of her experiential learning project, Christine will be working alongside our team over the next few months, supporting projects related to laboratory compliance, operations, and building systems for a growing multi-user biotech facility.

We’re excited to provide Christine with the opportunity to apply her academic experience in a hands-on environment while gaining exposure to the day-to-day operations of a life sciences innovation facility.

Since opening our doors in April, it has been very exciting to see SPEC Labs grown into more than just a wet lab facility, it has become a community.
We started things off with our Open House in April, where we welcomed founders, partners and members of the life sciences community into our newly opened facility to tour our wet lab space and learn more about what we are building at SPEC Labs.
Since then, we have continued to grow and expand.
We welcomed resident companies like and into our lab space, supported emerging life sciences companies with access to lab space and resources, and welcomed co-op students from in May into the facility to gain real-world life sciences experience.
But some of the most meaningful moments of building this community happen in the everyday moments.
Sometimes supporting a resident company means helping them find a supplier, research product, or the right company to connect with. While other times, it means making an introduction or helping them navigate available resources to them.
For an early-stage company, having the right resource or connection at the right time can make a meaningful difference.
Looking back at everything that SPEC Labs has achieved since April, we are proud of the community we have built and that is beginning to take shape inside SPEC Labs.
There is still so much ahead, and we are excited to continue creating a place where life science companies can grow, and founders, researchers, and industry leaders can come together.
We are just getting started.
