Please be informed that according to the warm water protocol in place for the Miramichi River, starting at 4:00pm on August 7, 2026, a portion of the Miramichi River watershed will be closed to all angling due to poor water conditions. This closure will remain until conditions improve.

Cold water brooks provide critically important habitat for adult and juvenile salmon, especially during warm water events. Each year, the MSA field team revisits former cold water habitat restoration sites to assess if restorations are still functioning. Necessary maintenance work to ensure sufficient cold water flow is carried out at each location, and snorkel surveys are performed to evaluate if fish species are using these cold water habitats. Please be advised that the 29 pools in the Miramichi River that were previously closed are reopening at 4:00 p.m. on July 17, 2026. The water temperatures have improved over the past two days.
