1st Gretna Green Scouting Miramichi We currently offer programs for ages 5 to 14. We go on camps, take part in exciting activities and learn life skills.

We have a strong group of well trained and enthusiastic Volunteer Scouters who facilitate stimulating programs for the youth every week. visit www.scoutscanada.ca for more info about our programming.

It ended up being a beautiful evening for a hike. We saw a beaver swimming! It managed to stay just ahead of us the whole time we were by the water.

The will be no meeting next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We will see you all again on October 19.

Here’s the update for tomorrow’s meeting The weather forecast has changed a bit in our favour. It will be a wet day but is supposed to clear off around supper time. Since it is getting dark earlier, we are going to go ahead with the hike. Dress for the weather conditions: boots, coat and a flashlight/headlamp. Family members are welcome to join us. We will meet at the playground entrance at 6:30.

There won’t be a meeting on October 12 due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Details for the October 19 meeting will follow closer to the date. See you all tomorrow night.

It was a fun first night back for our Beavers and Cubs. We made some basic first aid kit and practiced treating “wounds”.

Next week, weather permitting, we will attempt to go on our hike at French Fort Cove. Dress for the weather. Bring a water bottle and a flashlight or headlamp. If the forecast is for rain, we will meet at the church. Check this page again on Sunday evening for an update on the meeting plan.

It looks like Mother Nature is not going to cooperate with our original plans. The rain will make the equipment a little too slippery for the Vertical 1 badge. We will meet at the church at 6:30 and work on our Emergency Skills badges and save our hike and Vertical 1 badge for the following week. Our new members will work on Emergency Skills 1 and our returning members will work on Emergency Skills 2.

Happy new Scouting year! 1st Gretna Green Scouting will be having a welcome back meeting at St. Samuel’s Church in Douglastown on Monday, September 21, at 6:30pm. We would love to see our returning members, new members and those interested in volunteering.

We are in need of volunteers for our programs this year. We meet once a week and have the weekend occasional outing. All training is done online. Please send me a message through this page if you would like to learn more about volunteering.

We can’t wait to see everyone on the 21st.

Thank you! A big thank you to all of our members and family members for another great year. Thank you to Maurie’s Mini Putt and Ice Cream. Everyone had a blast playing golf and eating ice cream. We hope that you all have a wonderful summer and we will see you again in September.

I’m not quite sure what Mother Nature has in store for us, but we are going to take a chance on the weather being in our favour. We’re going to go ahead with golf and ice cream at Maurie’s tomorrow night at 6:30. Keep your eyes on this page for any last minute changes. Don’t forget your bug spray!

To our 1st Gretna Green family members: Tomorrow night is our year end ceremony at the church. If your child was a member with us last year, please bring their necker and woggle. If your child received a necker and woggle for the Remembrance Day ceremony, please bring it for the investiture ceremony. Families are welcome to join us. We will be having our ceremony followed by cake. I do have gluten free/dairy free cupcakes as well.

A schedule update for you all. We won’t be meeting on Monday, June 8th. We will be having a year end ceremony on June 15th. Families are welcome to join us for the evening. Our last meeting before summer break will be on June 22nd at Maurie’s. We will have a round of mini golf and an ice cream.

Edited to add: Family members are welcome to join us tonight!

We are going on a nature hike on Monday evening at the Miramichi Marsh. If you aren’t familiar with the marsh, it is pretty easy to find. If you are coming from the entrance on the bypass that runs from Newcastle to Chatham, turn down General Manson way and it will be it will be the second street on your left. Drive down until you can see an abandoned/boarded up brick building with a Hostopia sign on it. We can park there and walk down to the entrance of the trail. We are hoping to see some birds and other small animals. It looks like there might be a sprinkle of rain as we are finishing up so dress for the weather. Rubber boots and bug spray would be a good idea.
