AIR QUALITY UPDATE

Good news, Minden remains in the Yellow (low risk) category on the Air Quality Health Index, with conditions improving.The safety of our guests and staff remains our top priority. We continue to monitor air quality, wildfire activity, and public health guidance closely. Based on current guidance, the environment remains safe for planned activities. We look forward to welcoming our guests as planned!

We are thinking of everyone affected by the wildfires across Ontario and beyond. Our hearts go out to the communities, first responders, animals, and ecosystems impacted by these events.

🌟 A new OAP Seasonal Social Camp session has just opened! 🌟

Join us for three days of family camp fun from Friday, August 28 – Sunday, August 30 at Kinark Outdoor Centre! Learn more at kinarkoutdoorcentre.ca/koc-autism-programs/

- Ontario Autism Program (OAP) funding eligible
- Structured social skill development
- Family participation and support
- Clinically supervised programming

Our OAP Seasonal Social Camp provides children and youth with supportive, structured opportunities to build social, communication, daily living, and self-management skills through engaging seasonal activities and team-based experiences. Families participate alongside campers to help strengthen and generalize skills used across home, school, and community settings. Programming is clinically supervised by a Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA Ont.), with progress monitored throughout the session and a summary report provided at the end for OAP funding purposes.

Getting ready for a first camp experience can feel exciting, and a little overwhelming! Here are a few tips to help make the transition smoother for campers and families:

🎒 Pack together: involve your child in packing so they know what to expect
🗣️ Talk it through: share details about the schedule, activities, and staff ahead of time
🕰️ Practice routines: try out parts of the camp routine, like sleeping away from home or outdoor meals
💙 Send comfort items: a favourite item can help ease nerves
🌟 Focus on the fun: highlight new experiences, friendships, and adventures

With a little preparation, your camper can head into their first visit feeling confident and supported.
