BridgePoint Center for Eating Disorder Recovery

BridgePoint Center for Eating Disorder Recovery BridgePoint provides free program options that include intensive discovery, recovery and healing for The program is holistic in approach.

The perspective at BridgePoint is that eating disorders are coping mechanisms that also present a very serious health risk. They replace healthy ways of dealing with issues related to stressful and traumatic life experience and personal conflicts. Persons with eating disorders often disassociate from their feelings and consequently do not have a clear sense of self. In the recovery process, the pe

rson with an eating disorder develops an understanding of the issues underlying the eating disorder and how the eating disorder is related to unexpressed feelings and personal pain. The transition to better ways of coping with life stresses and healthier living is normally a lengthy and highly individualized process that requires continual self-discovery. The role of BridgePoint is to support self-discovery, as well as skill building, in the transition from letting go of old, unhealthy life patterns to discovering a variety of new and healthy choices in how to respond to the challenges of life. This support is provided in a program with three sequential modules that symbolize the process of building a bridge to recovery.

✨ SUMMER BOOK CLUB FOR WOMEN AGE 40+✨

Join us for an 8-week journey through Unapologetic Aging by Deb Benfield. This book is a compassionate, thought-provoking exploration of aging, body image, diet culture, and learning to live more fully in the bodies we have as they are right now.

Together, we’ll explore:
• body trust and embodiment
• anti-aging culture and wellness messaging
• food, nourishment, and self-compassion
• grief, identity, and liberation through aging
• what it means to age unapologetically

This group is designed to be reflective, supportive, and conversation-based, a space where we're not focused on “fixing” bodies, but understanding and caring for them with greater compassion.

🗓 Starts July 8, occurs every Wednesday from 12:00-1:00pm.
⏳ 8-week book club
📚 Unapologetic Aging by Deb Benfield; if you require a copy of the book BridgePoint will provide one.
💬 Open to women age 40+ who are BridgePoint alumni; this means you have participated in a minimum of an in-person or virtual retreat.

Registration closes on June 10th so that we have time to order and distribute required books.

We do understand that people may have summer plans and will have to miss a group or two. We ask that you are able to attend most of the sessions if you sign up.

As we come to the end of Mental Health Awareness Month, this is an important reminder: eating disorders are mental health conditions.

Eating disorders are not about willpower, vanity, attention-seeking, or choice. They are serious psychological illnesses that also have profound effects on the body and physical health.

When recovery is viewed only through physical markers like weight, lab values, vital signs, or visible symptoms, we miss a critical part of the picture. Psychological distress cannot be measured by BMI or bloodwork.

The more we understand eating disorders as mental health conditions, the more we can reduce misunderstanding, minimize stigma, and ensure people receive compassionate, appropriate care.

80% or more of people with eating disorders never access treatment.

Studies indicate that the low rate of treatment-seeking is driven by several systemic and personal barriers. Here are just a few examples:

👉Stigma & Shame: The stigma surrounding eating disorders can create shame for people experiencing them, which can deter folks from seeking help.

👉Financial Costs: Eating disorder treatment can be very expensive, which makes it out of reach for many folks who need it.

👉Lack of Specialized Training: Eating disorders are often undiagnosed, and if they are diagnosed practitioners may not have training in their treatment.

👉Geographic Barriers: Specialized treatment centers are often concentrated in urban areas, leaving rural residents with limited options.

BridgePoint is working to eliminate as many barriers to treatment as we can for people in Saskatchewan experiencing eating disorders and disordered eating.

If you don't know how to get started and on-site programming is too overwhelming or inaccessible due to location, why not try some of our virtual options? From 2-day intensive retreats, to counselling and nutrition sessions, to self-guided online courses, we've got something for you!

Check out our website to explore our options, or send us a message and we'll chat about how you can get started.

There are a few spots left for our next caregiver's workshop! If you want in, register NOW.

Supporting Your Loved One with Eating Disorder Recovery is an online workshop happening on Friday, May 22nd from 9am-4:30pm and is free for residents of Saskatchewan.

This is for anyone who is supporting someone with an eating disorder, whether you're a parent, friend, spouse, employer, etc. - all are welcome.

Through the lens of Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), BridgePoint offers support for caregivers that is rooted in a deep belief in the healing power of community. The model provides parents and other caregivers with the tools to restore connection in their relationship with their loved one and feel more empowered when faced with tough situations. In this workshop, caregivers are supported to identify, work through, and overcome many obstacles that surface through the journey of emotional and behavioural change.

Participants will learn practical skills to strengthen relationships, increase cooperation, and respond to strong emotional reactions including expressions of worry, anger, hopelessness, and even silence. Parents and caregivers will gain skills to navigate and guide their loved ones experiencing big feelings, emotional dysregulation, and/or mental health issues.
