hen̓ɬeʔ 😊

Last weekend was a busy one! While many of us were at the Indigenous Tattoo Conference, a beautiful Blanketing Ceremony was also taking place in Shackan 🧡

Our editor is hard at work sorting through all the amazing photos from this weekend’s events, but we wanted to share a few moments from Sunday’s ceremony that left us in awe — these are just SOME of the incredible women who helped make the day so meaningful.

We raise our hands to these and all women for the beautiful work they did to help blanket our young ones.

Working together, sharing knowledge, and lifting each other up, this is what it’s all about. From learning to laughter, this gathering brought people together in a powerful way and showed the strength of community. Grateful for everyone who showed up, shared their time, and helped make this experience meaningful. More moments like these to come 🤍

We want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who joined us this weekend at the Indigenous Tattoo Gathering. To all the incredible artists and community members who showed up, shared space, and celebrated together, your presence made this gathering truly special. This event was a result of requests and increased interests from our community, and a building collaboration with Awakening Our DNA.

It was a powerful weekend sharing space, stories, laughter, teachings and supporting one another. Traditional skin marking or tattooing can be a form or medicine, ceremony, remembrance, identity and connection for many people. We are so grateful for the success of the event and for the many new friendships that were formed along the way.

A special thank you to Robin Humphrey, Jacqueline Merritt, Alex Bannock, Tristen Jenni, Geanna Dunbar, Jamie Blankenship, Nolan Malbeuf, Ashleigh Cardinal, Mason Larose, and Nahaan for generously sharing their artistry and helping bring this gathering to life. Many thnks to our sponsors: Stromsten Transportation Group, IEG Consulting, K'en T'em Limited Partnership, Merritt Herald, Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly Departments.

néxʷm kʷukʷscéyp - A big thank you for being part of something so meaningful. We can’t wait to gather again.
