Community Mobile Service Reliability & Affordability Survey

Atlantic First Nation Tech Services is gathering feedback for an active CRTC proceeding: "Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2026-9." The CRTC (Canadian Radio-television & Telecommunications Commission) is an independent public tribunal that regulates and supervises broadcasting and telecommunications in Canada to ensure services are competitive, affordable, and serve the public interest.

The primary goal of this proceeding is to fix a long-standing frustration in Canada: the gap between what telecom companies claim their coverage is and what people actually experience on the ground.

The CRTC is specifically asking whether coverage maps reflect real-world experience. This creates an opportunity to put evidence on the record showing where the data does not align with lived experience in First Nation communities.

We invite you to share your experience with mobile phone service in your community as part of this CRTC proceeding. Click the link below to participate in the Community Mobile Service Reliability & Affordability Survey

WHY THIS MATTERS?

The information collected in this proceeding will directly inform future regulatory decisions about telecommunications services in Canada. In particular, the CRTC relies on real-world reporting—your experiences—to determine whether existing services are considered “good enough.” These decisions can have long-term consequences. For example, if the CRTC determines that mobile services meet certain standards, it may allow companies to reduce or remove other types of infrastructure, such as traditional landline (copper) networks.

WHY YOUR INPUT IS IMPORTANT?

In many remote and Indigenous communities, service can vary widely depending on location, infrastructure, and weather conditions. These realities are not always visible in official coverage maps or industry reports.

By sharing your experience, you help ensure that:
-Gaps in service are recognized
-The reliability of networks is accurately understood
-Emergency communication needs are taken into account
-Decisions are based on real conditions, not assumptions

A few final points for those willing to provide their feedback via the survey:
-There are no right or wrong answers; what matters most is your experience
-Time commitment is approximately 5 minutes
-Your identity will remain anonymous

The purpose of this survey is to gather your feedback regarding an active CRTC proceeding (Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2026-9). Its primary goal is to fix a long-standing frustration in Canada: the gap between what telecom companies claim their coverage is and what people actually experience...
