This is Karen-Anne Cherwonogrodzky. 👋

Karen-Anne was born and raised in Medicine Hat. She has been very active all her life with various work, hobbies, volunteering, and travel. With so many interests and a desire to do a Pecha Kucha talk, it was hard for her to decide on a topic. But having taken on the coordinator position to plan for a big event this May long weekend for the local Rock Club, she decided to promote the club and the event that will bring all the Rock Clubs across Alberta together this summer in Seven Persons for what is called “May Daze 2026.”

Join us at Pecha Kucha vol. 36 to hear from Karen-Anne this Saturday, January 17 | 7:30 PM | Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre | suggested donation of $5 | tickets not required!

Have you ever noticed those large, old flour mill buildings off of Kipling and Allowance Ave and wondered, what‘s the history behind those buildings? When were they built, and why did they close down? What’s happening with them now? 🤔

Cannon is a 14-year-old Medicine Hat student and musician, and an incredibly curious person who asked these same questions. After a deep dive into the history of Medicine Hat using the internet and local public resources, they are so excited to share what they’ve learned at Pecha Kucha vol. 36!

Join us to hear from Gillian and a great line up of other community speakers during Pecha Kucha vol. 36 | Saturday, January 17 @ 7:30 pm | Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre | suggested donation of $5 | tickets not required!

This is Scott Mastel. 👇
Scott will be speaking at Pecha Kucha vol. 36 with a presentation titled, 'From driving tanks in Afghanistan to becoming a Mental Health Therapist - how to survive radical change.'

Scott is a husband and father to a son and daughter. He grew up in Medicine Hat and is a Registered Social Worker currently working as a Mental Health Therapist. He works primarily with people who have been involved in domestic violence. In the past he has also worked with youth who struggled with addiction. Prior to his career in the helping field, he served as a soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces for 9 years and earned the rank of Master Corporal. Going from combat operations in Afghanistan, and then straight to college presented a number of significant challenges for Scott. He will talk about what was helpful for him to endure these challenges and discuss how anyone can cultivate a mentality of enjoying life rather than just simply existing in it.

This is Chris Humphries and he loves adventure! 🤙
His latest and biggest adventure had him hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) for six continuous months in 2025. Chris says, “it was an unreal experience to step away from the hustle and bustle and just be outside, soaking in all that Mother Nature could provide. Life is an amazing thing, and it’s so much better off the couch!”
