MHCA at Apprentice Appreciation Day

Medicine Hat College proudly recognized its students, faculty and industry partners as part of Alberta's Apprenticeship Appreciation Day today.

As longtime supporters of the college and apprentices, MHCA were pleased to attend this event which was held in their Heavy Equipment Technician Shop.

There was a large turnout including students, supporters, and donors.

Morgan Blair, School of Trades & Technology Dean, delivered opening remarks followed by an inspiring speech from Euan McKinnon, graduate of MHC's Steamfitter/Pipefitter program and Skills national gold medalist.

The Construction Industry, what is it?

The construction industry contributes around 10% of GDP and employs around 10% of the workforce yet it is the industry that is the most taken for granted – Construction “just happens”

It’s not new, it’s not a passing fad or temporary trend, it doesn’t grab the headlines, but it is essential to the growth of any economy. It’s a high tech, innovative, sustainable Industry.

Support and recognise the contribution of your local construction companies and workers. Without them you would not have homes, offices to work from, roads to get to work, schools to educate your children, hospitals to visit when you need medical help, stores to buy groceries.

The list is endless because the Construction Industry impacts every aspect of your life.

Infrastructure Minister Martin Long attends MHCA Round Table Luncheon.

Many thanks to MHCA Board Members,Brad Braaten, Cody Wahl and Barrett Anderson who represented our association, alongside prominent member Jon Wilson (Aecon).

BILD Medicine Hat, and the Chamber of Commerce joined us and were well represented by Executive Directors, staff and board members.

Minister Long was joined by a team from the Infrastructure Ministry and our local MLA Justin Wright, recently appointed as Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services.

There was an excellent open forum discussion covering wide ranging topics. Cypress club president Troy Wason guided guests through an informative tour of the historic club and detailed it's history.
