🚨 SEASAR Update: Strengthening Communications & Community Support 🚨

SEASAR has officially made the switch to VHF radios, significantly improving our ability to communicate during operations.

With this transition, we found ourselves with equipment that no longer fit our operational needs. Rather than letting it sit on the shelves “just in case,” we chose to put it to good use—embracing a reduce, reuse, repurpose mindset by ensuring it continues to make an impact in our community. ♻️

We are proud to donate this equipment to the ARES Alberta - Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES). 📡

ARES is made up of certified amateur radio operators who volunteer their time, skills, and equipment to provide critical communication support during emergencies and disasters.

By passing this equipment along, we’re strengthening the broader emergency response network while supporting those who share our commitment to preparedness, collaboration, and service.

Yesterday, members of SEASAR participated in the City of Medicine Hat’s Full-Scale Emergency Exercise, which focused on a potential flood scenario affecting our community.

SEASAR members are trained in disaster response and can assist in many different capacities during emergency situations. Yesterday’s exercise gave our team the opportunity to strengthen skills in Incident Command System (ICS) operations, evacuation communication and door-knocking procedures, and even put some acting skills to the test as members role-played evacuees checking in at the reception centre.

Training opportunities like this are invaluable. Working alongside our community partners and tasking authorities helps us continue to build and improve our skills for when the call comes.

A huge thank you to the City of Medicine Hat for including SEASAR in this important exercise and for the continued collaboration in emergency preparedness and response. 🚨🌊

Huge shout out to Matt Piotrowski Photography for going above and beyond for our athletes! 📸👏

While most people were still asleep at zero dark thirty, Matt was already on the road heading out to the beautiful Cypress Hills to capture some absolutely incredible shots of our team in action.

And after all of that? He was off again — this time to be an amazing dad and cheer on his own kids at their sporting events. 👏

The early morning, long drive, and dedication definitely paid off, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the time and effort put into showcasing our athletes and our organization so professionally.

Once again, a true testament to the incredible community we’re lucky to be surrounded by. Thank you for your support and for helping tell our story through your lens! 🙌
