Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club Helping to conserve the Bruce Trail along the Beaver Valley

Hikers can expect dramatic views of the blue waters of Nottawasaga Bay, the green valley slopes of the Beaver Valley, wooded vistas, rushing creeks and beautiful waterfalls, such as Eugenia Falls and Hoggs Falls.

The mornings are getting much cooler but the sun is still shining on our 4 day Peninsula hikers led by BV hike leader Kristina Rettie! Today's trail started off with a good stretch of road so they put on their fast feet and warmed up in no time. Once entering the Bruce Peninsula National park the trails were drenched with autumn leaves and sunshine. They got to walk over the newly built bridge with one of the team members that helped hand bomb the logs in...,thank you Jenny! Then they
found themselves on the edge of the escarpment treading lightly and a bit more slowly across the rocky edge with many beautiful lookouts, including a great sightline of the flowerpot. Then up the Halfway Dump Side Trail back to the cars. Another day of natural beauty ☀️!

Day 2 of 4 of hike leader Kristina Rettie's week leading hikers through the Northern Bruce Peninsula did not disappoint. It was a challenging 31km hike that was a distance record for most of the hikers. They persevered through a very difficult section, but the rewards were worth every step. Along the way they ran into Bill, Sheri and Maris who were pe-hiking for the moonlight hike this coming Saturday in the Peninsula, then ending their long hiking day with a much deserved meal and bevvy served up by The Tobermory Brewery Co!

Our very own BV hike leader, Kristina Rettie, is leading her Tuesday Trekkers on a four day Northern Bruce Peninsula adventure this week! Today the Trekkers took on Lion’s Head. The Sun Gods are on their side this week and they couldn’t feel more grateful to be out on the trails. The group ran into many wonderful hikers including Tom and Laura who were out maintaining the trails keeping them safe for all to enjoy, thank you ❤️!! The day ended with dockside yoga and a little dip in the water.

The weather was not looking favourable on Tuesday so The Tuesday Trekkers postponed their Peninsula 2 of 7 hikes until today, Wednesday. It was a perfect day to hike from Barrow Bay around to Hope Bay, the sound of the waves and the leaves falling from the trees made for the perfect post turkey hike. Next week we will head up for a 4 day hike from Lion’s Head to Tobermory, there are a few spaces available! The trail work at the top of the Bruce Trail Old Baldy side trail south of Kimberley has now been completed and is open for hikers. A reroute was required in the steepest section of the trail due to ongoing erosion and safety concerns with this section of the trail. The wooden steps were in poor condition with many either collapsed or thrown off to the side. The conservation authority was also concerned with the erosion associated with the continued use of the trail. The reroute incorporates a series of switchbacks but remains a challenging climb for those looking for a workout. A number of Bruce Trail volunteers worked on the trail and completed the reroute over 4 days. The steps on the old trail were removed and stacked at the bottom of that section and are in the process of being taken out to the blue gate at the road for disposal. If any hikers feel like grabbing a few boards on their way down the trail and leaving them at the blue gate, the trail crew would appreciate the help . The Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club hopes you will visit the new reroute.

The Beaver Valley Tuesday Trekkers are back on the trail! This month they will be completing the Peninsulas section of the Bruce Trail, and couldn’t have asked for a better day to start off. On today's hike their feet took them from Jones Bluff down through Cape Croker Park (of course stopping in for maple syrup), up and around Sydney Bay Bluff, and down to Hope Bay.

Volunteer of the Year award went to Deb Wells, our Trail Angel Coordinator extraordinaire who wears many other hats, and Glenda Collings, volunteer of too many things to mention, received The Boot, the Keith Solomon Award boot that is!
