Welcome to Biidaasige Park, the biggest new green (and blue) parkland in Toronto in a generation! Big Canoe Project was there to help .to (see the white hard hats) with the opening ceremonies for this renaturalized, reclaimed mouth of the Don River. It took them 7+ years of construction, including excavating down 5 storeys, to put a river back where it once flowed and the results speak for themselves; the wildlife is returning, the shoreline is lush and the water is moving! We were honoured to paddle in to the opening ceremonies with , to be invited to share our part of this event with , and, to wrap up the day, host a crew from the Toronto Star and one of the Project Directors for a ride along interview. Congratulations to everyone involved in pulling off this monumental feat of engineering and environmental cleanup of the Donlands. It’s inspiring to see human ingenuity applied to regreening rather than ungreening for a change!
