Our first Guild meeting of the year was a great success today. We welcomed new members and enjoyed a slide show of our Quilt Show prepared by Diane. Carol taught us to make a Norwegian Log Cabin Chicken using the paper piecing technique. And we had a lovely Show & Share. Photos below. Karen, our President presented flowers to Pam, Diane and Beth to thank them for their work on organizing the Quilt Show in July.

Our next Guild meeting is on Tuesday, October 13 at 9:30 am at the Ag Hall. Liz Young of will be presenting a trunk show of her fabulous modern quilts. To join the Mayne Island Quilters’ and Textile Artists’ Guild please e-transfer $60 to [email protected]

The first Guild meeting of our new year is a week today, Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 9:30 am at the Ag Hall on Mayne.
You’re invited to join us! It’s an Open House. Come and see what we’re up to and hear about exciting workshops planned for this year.
We’ll be accepting memberships, $60 for the year.

We would like to thank our featured artist, Titia MacKay, for displaying her gorgeous quilts at our Quilt Show this past weekend. Thank you to Pam Withers, our Quilt Show co-ordination for keeping us all on track. Carol Haller and her committee did an amazing job registering the quilts; Janet Guy and Meryl Smith for the operation of the front door; Sandy Sandvik for publicity, Diane Shopland for printing the quilt labels; Beth Cooper and Diane for organizing the hanging of the quilts in the hall; Fran Nadeau for organizing all the volunteers; Karen Teager for the voting ballots; Mirjam Moore and Connie Layzell for the beautiful flowers; Ibet Folk for the Boutique; the Days for Girls crew for their display and Ineke Aardema for the Memorial table. And thank you to all the quilters and their husbands who volunteered to help make the event a success.

We would also like to thank the Ag Society for their help in ensuring this event went well…Sasha, Dave Rea and Tina; The Mayne Island Community Bus, the The Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council.

Over 300 people attended the show. Thanks to everyone who came!

From our Quilt Show yesterday on Mayne Island, the winners are…..

Sandy Sandvik for “Best in Show”, a Canadian Quilters Association Award, voted on by Mayne Island Quilters’ Guild members only.

Shirley Higgs for “Viewers Choice” award, voted on by all attendees at the show.

Sandy Sandvik for “Challenge Quilt” award. Art pieces depicting Canadian song writers and songs.

Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to the Quilt Show Executive who pulled the show together. It was a great success!
