While this particular situation may not apply to our members, we are sharing it as an important reminder that scams and fraudulent activity can happen to anyone, in many different ways.

Please be cautious when receiving unexpected calls, messages, emails, or requests for personal information or money. Take the time to verify before providing any information, and when in doubt, contact the organization directly through an official number or website.

Please stay alert and protect yourself and your personal information.

POLICE WARNING COMMUNITIES ABOUT FRAUDS TARGETING FIRST NATIONS MEMBERS RECEIVING ROBINSON HURON TREATY DISTRIBUTIONS

The Anishinabek Police Service (APS) is issuing a warning about fraudulent activity targeting members of two of the communities we serve. Officers with the APS Major Crime Unit are currently investigating two separate frauds that targeted members of First Nations communities who are entitled to receive Robinson Huron Treaty (RHT) distributions. Both cases remain under active investigation, and for this reason, we are sharing only limited details at this time.

▪️ Incident #1

In the first incident (reported in July 2026), an unknown suspect used the identification of a community member to fraudulently receive a Robinson Huron Treaty payment to which they were not entitled. In this incident, the funds were distributed and have not yet been recovered.

▪️ Incident #2

In the second incident (reported in August 2026), a scammer used the identification of a community member to make a request to receive an RHT payment under the eligible community member’s name. No funds were distributed in this case.

Apitipi Anicinapek Nation is accepting applications for a Part-Time Ontario Works Administrator within the Social Development Department.

This position supports community members with Ontario Works services, including intake, eligibility assessments, case management, referrals, and administrative support.

Hours: 21 hours per week, with flexibility for evenings and weekends.
