Guest Speaker: Karen - Our guest speaker is from Raptor’s Ridge.

Karen has always had a passion for all animals; her main focus has always been birds. Staying true to
her passion for the fine feathered friends. Either rescuing them from certain demise, admiring them
through a pair of binoculars, or almost driving off the roads as they wing their way through the
air! When she got her first hawk, the story started to unfold! With the help of her husband Kim they
opened Raptors Ridge Birds of Prey Inc.

Raptors Ridge now has over 28 raptors that call Maple Ridge home. Through conservation and
education, Raptors Ridge is strengthening the connection between the forces of nature and human
innovation to create sustainability. Education is provided through our out-reach programs at Schools,
Youth Groups, Community events, university programs and engagement to over 1 million guests at BC's
oldest Tourist destination, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park.

Our learning experiences are fun and engaging that makes learning informative and memorable. Raptors Ridge also provides personalized hands-on experiences that offer participants an up close and personalized memories!

Guest Speaker: Nadira Sultana

We are a plant-loving couple with a deep passion for growing and sharing indoor tropical plants.Although plants have been a part of our life since long, our journey truly began in March 2025.

Our passion is not just selling plants but helping others feel confident caring for them. We don’t claim to be experts—we are lifelong learners who grow through experience and love sharing what we’ve learned to help the plant community thrive. We look forward to continuing our journey locally at farmers markets and expanding to an online platform to reach even more plant lovers.

**** Plants will be available for purchase at the meeting.******

We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Nadira to the club!

Guest Speaker: Vanessa from Metro Vancouver, Regional Parks - Coyotes, Bears and Owls

https://metrovancouver.org/services/regional-parks

“Regional parks are great places to go for a walk, breathe fresh air and enjoy the beauty of nature. But they're more than that:
they're part of a larger system that includes regional park reserves, ecological conservancy areas and greenways.

All of these places are located on the shared territories of many Indigenous peoples, including 10 local First Nations. These green
spaces protect diverse natural landscapes and habitats spread out over British Columbia's largest metropolitan area. They are our shared legacy. Start exploring. Discover a new trail, learn about wildlife or attend one of the many events and programs. Enjoy a world away from the hustle and bustle of urban life and reconnect with nature.

We’re looking forward to Vanessa's presentation and learn about regional parks in Metro Vancouver region.

Regional park locations, events, activities, and reservations, as well as plans and reports.

Guest Speaker: Deborah Jones - Rain Gardens.

“Rain gardens” are sprouting up everywhere. But surely every garden in our area is a rain garden, given the amount of rainfall we get? Not quite! Learn exactly what rain gardens are, the many benefits they provide and why they’re essential for climate resilience. Take a photo tour of some rain gardens, then learn how to create your own -- whether quick 'n' easy, or larger and a bit more ambitious.

Deborah Jones has a BA in Urban Studies, a Masters of Library Science, and worked for Vancouver Public Library for over 30 years.

Deb now serves as volunteer Rain Gardens Coordinator for Cougar Creek Streamkeepers. She oversees the maintenance of 30+ school and community rain gardens created since 2006 in collaboration with the City of Delta, Delta School District, Pacific Salmon Foundation, Nature Trust of BC and others. She also advises the Nature Trust on their rain garden grant program.

We’re looking forward to Deborah's presentation - excited to learn all about rain gardens!
