Manotick Legion members come have some fun at the parade. We have room for approximately 30 people to sit on the Manotick Legion Parade Float on June 5th. We load at 6:30 pm and join the parade at 7:00 pm. The parade lasts about one hour.

Everyone is welcome to join us in the parade, including children and grandchildren. A BBQ will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers along with potato salad and chips before, during and after the parade in the parking lot beside the Legion. We look forward to seeing you Friday and Saturday. A membership tent will be set up at the Legion and also at the Cenotaph.

The Royal Canadian Legion Centenary Special Event Committee will also have a tent at the Cenotaph.

The army cadets will also have a tent at the Cenotaph promoting their activities and programs.

See you Friday and Saturday.

At the Manotick Legion we frequently see members (or guests) accompanied by a service dog (or puppies in training). This animal is not a pet or companion. It is a working dog there to help mitigate specific symptoms of a disability. The safety, wellbeing or even life of the handler rests on this shoulders of this canine.

Think of the dog as an assistive device, something akin to a wheel chair or hearing aids. You wouldn’t stare or try to interfere with someone’s wheel chair, the best policy is to afford service dog handlers the same courtesy.

Always ask before you touch (don’t be offended if the handler says no). It’s ok to ask questions, but avoid getting to personal: ie asking what kind of dog it is would be polite, but asking what sort of disabilities it helps with is considered rude (basically your asking a person to share their medical history).

Give the dogs (and their handlers) space. Avoid staring at, talking to, or feeding the dog (it distracts them from their work).

Attached below is an easy reminder of the Do’s & Don’ts of service dog etiquette. We hope that this will assist you in the future (should you happen to encounter someone at the Legion accompanied by a working service dog or trainee.

Thank you for understanding.

On May 29, 1926, the first Legion badge, said to be made from Manitoba gold, was presented to the Governor General, Lord Byng of Vimy. Its design has remained largely unchanged, becoming a lasting symbol of the Legion’s identity and commitment to Veterans, Remembrance, and community service.
