And just like that, our little trout are on to their next big adventure........ We are so grateful for the learning experiences they provided for so many students over the past few months.
A big shout out to Ms. Baker's class and OLOL for taking care of these little ones as they grew and became ready for release into their new home.

Fish Derby Success! 🎣❄️

What a fantastic day on the ice! With 75 people out enjoying the sunshine and winter air—including 35 enthusiastic youth anglers—Manitouwadge Lake was alive with laughter, excitement, and a whole lot of proud moments. From beautiful fish and impressive catches to big smiles that truly won the day, this was community at its very best.

A huge thank you to our incredible supporters—MCL, Moosetrax, Barrick, Manroc, Two Doors Down, NAPA, Melanie’s Independent, and Threads—and to Lorne Boyd for generously donating the firewood that kept everyone warm and gathered around the fire.

And of course, thank you to our dedicated volunteers who made the day run smoothly from start to finish.

Events like this don’t happen by accident. They happen because a community shows up, supports its youth, and believes in creating joyful, memorable experiences together.

💙 THANK YOU, MANITOUWADGE! 💙
What an incredible day on the hill!
We had 33 registered boxes and 54 brave riders take on the Frosty Days Cardboard Box Races — and wow, did you deliver!
The creativity, time, and effort that went into building, designing, and decorating each box was amazing. From speed to spills to thrills, the hill was full of laughter, cheers, and unforgettable moments.
👏 Huge shoutout to Nancy and Gail for representing in a big way — our most seasoned racers. Your spirit, courage, and willingness to take the hill was inspiring and absolutely made the day even more special!
Make sure you’re sporting those winning medals around town — you’ve earned them! 🥇🥈🥉
We are so proud of every single racer who took part.

Frosty Days Cardboard Box Races are ready to take over Kiwissa! 🛷

Before you head out, a few important reminders:

✔️ Two racers per box
(If you’ve built a box but don’t have a partner — come on down! We’ll match you up so no one misses the ride!)

✔️ Helmets are required for all participants
🚫 Helmets are not provided by the event. Please bring your own.
Ski Rental shop will be open if you need to tent a helmet!

✔️ Building materials allowed:
Cardboard, duct tape, string, garbage bags/vapour barrier only
🚫 No metal
🚫 No pre-fabricated materials
🚫 No waxes, sprays, lubricants, or added coatings

🎨 Decorations are strongly encouraged — and yes… there’s a Best Box Prize!

🏁 Each team gets two runs down the hill

🏆 Prizes awarded in both categories (Youth 12 & Under and Adult 13+):
🥇 1st Place
🥈 2nd Place
🥉 3rd Place

📣 Don’t forget the Decorate Your Chair event happening to help cheer on the racers! Let’s fill the hill with colour, creativity, and community spirit!

The intention behind the Manitouwadge Community Fish Hatchery was simple. Provide opportunities for our youth to connect to the land and waters through stewardship of a local fishery. This was the vision of Pat Gauthier, the rest of the team, and the generous sponsors that brought this project into our community.
We are incredibly grateful for the OLOL and Ms. Baker for bringing that vision to life over the past few weeks.
