Day of Action May 14, 2026 @ Magnetawan First Nation

March 2026 International Glyphosate Symposium Experts concluded that glyphosate and glyphostae-based herbicides harm human health and can cause cancer. There is further evidence of the harm to the kidney, liver, reproductive, endocrine, neurological and metabolic systems. - Stop the Spray Canada

With this new information in 2026, why is aerial spraying still occurring? If you guess money and convenience, you'd be right.

Did you know that while Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) is federally legislated, provinces can act without federal regulatory changes. The province of Quebec ended forestry spraying in 2001. In Ontario action has started at the municipal level, with 61 municipalities have said no to the continued practice of spraying.

Did you also know that glyphosate use was banned on lawns in Ontario, in 2009, to protect children and families from "unnecessary risk", yet it is continually is being used to "manage" forests. -Stop the Spray Canada

Imagine the healthy life that would have filled forests if Canada had listen to Indigenous Voices from the start. If we'd trusted and valued their Knowledge. It took until 2026 to scientifically prove with western techniques, what Indigenous scientist have been informing colonizers for decades.

When the Traditional Ecological Knowledge Elders ask to gather and rally; the only questions asked was WHEN & WERE? MFN Elders in attendance quickly jumped to the opportunity to host at Magnetawan First Nation. Organizing action between busy schedules is a challenge, we are grateful to have been supported by our Chief and Conseil. It was a beautiful windy day on the side of HWY 69 spent with Elders from across the Robinson Huron Treaty Area!

Raising awareness because Forest Management = Forest Agriculture.

What is Glyphosate? - A chemical herbicide used by forestry companies & Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry (*or whatever they call themselves these days). Glyphosate is used to eliminate "unwanted" plants that compete with commercial timber. - Stop the Spray Ontario

Wilder Institute representatives: Donnell, Kaitlyn, Marc and Ralph, EllisDon representatives: Brad and Scott plus Magnetawan First Nation Lands Team: Chris (photographer), Kayden, Terry and Nadine had a blast out in the field this month! What better way to get wild than to partake in surveys on the land together. The crew found a Massasauga rattlesnake (which was names "Don") and can be seen here processing the snake through a tubbing method to safely handle its tail end. Followed by picture of our little friend getting released back to it's basking location.
Miigwech for the teamwork! Have a Great Summer Don!
