The most historic event in Northside qathet in many years is taking place.
The Grand Opening of our new Community Centre Friday May 8! Complete with a new hall/gym, commercial kitchen, Beautiful lobby, covered outdoor gathering space and Full size and accessible toilets!! (no more mini toilets!)
The qRD is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony from 1-3pm . This will include a blessing by elders fro Tla'Amin Nation, and all the speeches and recognition as well a coffee and treats from Nancy's bakery.
Then The LCS will host a Community Potluck and Celebration at 5pm-with Local Live Music and DJ's until 11pm

Message for our long suffering Neighbours from Lund Community Society
If you are one our neighbours, we know this has been a long year! With ongoing parking disasters and noise. We are very happy for you, and all of us, that the construction is almost over!! Thank you for managing through what we know was a challenging time.
We know some of you are concerned about the Grand Opening event being another disruption. Please know we acknowledge that this will be a large event and that it will have some noise and, of course, vehicle traffic.
We are doing what we can to moderate this. The facility parking will be finally usable and we have arranged for over-flow parking in the gravel pit behind the community centre. We will have no-parking signs in front of residences and have parking attendants. We are also doing some sound decibel testing this week to ensure the music will not be overly disruptive within the neighbourhood. We will also have folks routinely discouraging parking lot tailgate parties.
That said, we are aware that there will still be some noise and neighbourhood disruption with this large of an event. We are firstly hoping that everyone feels invited and included to participate in the celebration! It will be a wonderful celebration of community, and will be more complete if all the local residents participate. There are many parts of this event designed to suit our different demographics. The afternoon will be the official ceremony with all the levels of government. The evening community event will start with sharing food and live music, there is a local art show and dessert concession. It will proceed to more dancing music as the evening unfolds.
We also hope folks can consider that this is a once in a lifetime event. The opening of a new community facility is really exciting. There will be more events in the future, but this one is likely to be more attended than most.
Moving forward, efforts will always be made to be good neighbours. We are including expectations for parking and noise management in our rental policies and internally take our neighbourly relationship seriously.
I hope in time we can all embrace this amazing new gathering space, that is intended to serve the needs of all residents.
