These eggs will be included in our upcoming Hamper Days and are not for daily distribution.

The Lumby Food Bank is grateful to have received a generous donation of fresh eggs through BC Egg Farmers in partnership with Food Banks BC.
Across British Columbia, thousands of dozens of eggs are donated each year to help food banks provide healthy, high-quality protein to families in need and weโ€™re thankful Lumby is part of that support. Thank you to our volunteers and to everyone who helps strengthen our community. ๐Ÿ’›

Our Story...

The Lumby Food Bank was previously located in a very small jammed-in room in the Arbor Park Mall in the middle of Lumby, BC. However in March of 2019 our new location was purchased by Food Bank President Robert Wilkinson to house the increased growing food bank demands of our community needs.

Our food bank is supported with food and monetary donations from local and distant services, businesses, companies and many of our own community members! We are also supported strongly by our non-profit Thrift Shop, which is run by Marcel and Jean Galli and their great team of volunteers! The thrift shop and the food bank has always worked hand in hand!

We are also part of the food recovery program here in British Columbia, which means a volunteer (Marcel Galli) drives into Vernon with our refrigerated van once a week (sometimes more often) and picks up produce, meat and bread that some of the stores no longer want, or are close to reaching itโ€™s expiration date. When the products arrive back at the food bank, volunteers go through everything and either throw it out or clean it up! Often larger stores canโ€™t be bothered with going through some of the produce to try to salvage any of it, whereas we are able to benefit our community clients by being able to go through it, clean it, organize it and salvage perfectly good produce/items for all to enjoy.

Anything that is not salvageable for people, we set aside for our local farmers to come and pick up for their farm critters. Itโ€™s a win-win situation and nothing gets sent to the dumpster from a large grocery store!
