| LiUNA Local 1059 represents over 6,000 construction, industrial, and service sector workers across Southwestern Ontario. From Grey and Bruce to Middlesex, Oxford, Elgin, Huron, and Perth counties, our members play a vital role in building, maintaining, and servicing the communities where they live and work.

We advocate for our members by negotiating strong collective agreements that deliver safe workplaces, fair wages, overtime, and comprehensive pension and benefit plans. We also connect members with signatory employers, creating access to quality job opportunities while supporting a skilled, reliable workforce across the region. Local 1059 operates a state-of-the-art Training Centre in London, offering hands-on learning in a professional environment. Each year, our experienced instructors train hundreds of pre-apprentices, apprentices, and journeypersons, helping them build and strengthen their skills. Looking ahead, our new Training Centre in Walkerton is currently under construction and expected to open in Spring 2027. This facility will expand our ability to serve members and future members across Bruce, Grey, Huron, and Perth counties. Community Guidelines:

We’re excited to welcome GOTECH Communications to the Local 1059 Charity Partnership Program.

The idea behind the program is simple: participating employers display the LiUNA Local 1059 logo on their vehicles and equipment, and in return, Local 1059 makes a charitable donation to a registered charity of their choice. It’s a partnership that supports both our industry and our communities.

As part of the agreement, Local 1059 has made a $15,000 donation on behalf of GOTECH Communications to the Maria Luisa de Moreno International Foundation.

The Foundation supports immigrants and Canadian families through educational programs, employment support, and community services designed to help individuals and families build successful futures and thrive in their communities.

This is the second time an employer has selected the Foundation through the Charity Partnership Program. Combined with an earlier $8,000 donation connected to Apeiro Construction, the program has now directed a total of $23,000 to support the Foundation’s work.

Thank you to GOTECH Communications for joining the program and helping make a positive impact in our community and beyond.

This , we’re recognizing Osama Wady.

After years of working non-union jobs, Osama joined LiUNA Local 1059 in 2024 and has been working hard to build a future in the construction industry. Last year, he received $2,000 through the James MacKinnon Local 1059 Scholarship Fund to support his studies in the Construction Engineering Technology for Management program at Fanshawe College.

Today, Osama is completing a co-op placement with signatory contractor EllisDon as he works toward his long-term goal of becoming a superintendent.

“The money was a huge help, but it was the encouragement that got me the most,” Osama said. “I genuinely did not think I was ever going to end up back in school, but receiving the scholarship motivated me to go full force toward it.”

Congratulations, Osama. We wish you continued success in your studies and career.

Stories like Osama’s are a reminder that there are many paths to a rewarding career in construction.

Applications for the James MacKinnon Local 1059 Scholarship Fund open June 1. Eligible members, or their children and dependents, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Trades Awareness Days 2026 is officially in the books, and we’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the Local 1059 Training Centre last week.

From elementary and high school students to members of the general public during our open house, it was great to see so many people take an interest in the skilled trades and the hands-on training opportunities available through Local 1059.

Events like this are an important opportunity to connect with the community, introduce people to the trades, and showcase pathways into rewarding careers in construction — including our Red Seal Construction Craft Worker apprenticeship program.

A special thank you as well to our event sponsors for helping make Trades Awareness Days possible:

London & District Concrete Forming Association
London Sewer and Watermain, Curb, Gutter, and Sidewalk Association
Ontario Association of Demolition Contractors
The Utility Contractors’ Association of Ontario

We’d also like to thank Rogers TV, AM980 CFPL / Corus Entertainment, and the London Free Press for helping share the event with the community.

We're very grateful for everyone who participated, visited the Training Centre, and helped make this year’s event a success.

Members, employers, and industry partners are encouraged to check their email for registration information and tournament details. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].

With the continued support of members, employers, and industry partners, Local 1059’s charity golf tournaments continue to make a meaningful difference in the community. Last year’s events raised an incredible $278,000 in support of local charities, and proceeds from this year’s tournaments will once again support important local causes across our region.

We look forward to another great year on the course. ⛳️

We recently caught up with this crew during an Introduction to Aerial course at the Local 1059 Training Centre. Developed alongside employer partners, the course focuses on skills that are increasingly needed out in the field and helps members continue building their experience and qualifications.

Special thanks to Lorron Technologies, KWS, and Aecon for their support and collaboration in helping make this training possible.

At Local 1059, training continues to play an important role in preparing members for opportunities across the industry and ensuring our workforce is ready to meet the needs of employers.

We’re excited to renew our Charity Partnership with Riverside Concrete Forming.

The idea behind the program is simple: participating employers display the LiUNA Local 1059 logo on their vehicles and equipment, and in return, Local 1059 donates to a registered charity of their choice. It’s a partnership that supports both our industry and our communities.

Riverside was one of the earliest companies to join the program in 2023, and we’re proud to continue building on that relationship. As part of the renewed agreement, Local 1059 will donate another $15,000 to Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario—bringing the total connected to this partnership to $30,000 over the past three years.

Thank you to Riverside for continuing to support meaningful work in our region!

This , we'd like to give a shoutout to Stephen Sloetjes, David McIntosh, Cole Marshall, Eris Mazreku, Philip Walachniewicz, Owen Eldridge, Jordan Adams, and Parker Van Beest of J-AAR.

This crew recently installed temporary traffic signals at a major London intersection. Once construction there is complete, they’ll return to install the new permanent signals that will help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently.

From temporary setups to long-term infrastructure upgrades, Local 1059 members play an important role in keeping our communities connected and our city moving.

Thank you to this crew for your hard work and professionalism.

Our second Steward’s Seminar of the year recently brought together dozens of industrial sector stewards at the Local 1059 Training Centre.

These conversations are an important part of supporting members on site and ensuring stewards have the tools and information they need. The seminar also included an interactive “Labour Walk” presentation exploring the history of union organizing and LiUNA, offering valuable context on how the labour movement has evolved over time.

This event was organized by Industrial Business Representatives Dani Bartlett and Megan Quinney.

Thank you to Business Manager Brandon MacKinnon, Local 1059 Legal Counsel Lauren Donohue, Carolyna Rao and Naomi Akuako from Members Health, and Josh Keene from Canadian Mental Health Association Thames Valley for sharing their time and expertise.

We’re grateful for the leadership our stewards continue to show in the field and the role they play in strengthening our Local every day.
