Walking through church hurt and spiritual abuse can be deeply confusing and painful.

It can wound trust.
It can confuse faith.
It can leave people isolated, ashamed, angry, afraid, or unsure where to turn.

Church hurt and spiritual abuse can affect men and women alike because they touch the deeply human places of trust, faith, safety, and belonging.

Men and women, individuals and couples, church members and ministry leaders can all carry the weight of spiritual wounds. Some are grieving what happened. Some are trying to understand what was true and what was distorted. Some are wondering if it is safe to trust again.

At Gospel Care Canada, we offer Christ-centred, clinically-informed biblical counselling for those walking through church hurt, spiritual abuse, wounded trust, spiritual confusion, and complex suffering.

Our counsellors seek to provide careful, compassionate care shaped by Scripture, prayer, and the hope of the gospel.

For this Care Spotlight, the featured GCC counsellors are:

Jennifer Holmes
Dave Nannery
Mel Neufeld
Cody John Simpson

You do not have to walk through this alone.

Meet Jennifer Holmes, one of Gospel Care Canada's biblical counsellors.

Jennifer walks alongside individuals and couples facing trauma, spiritual abuse, relational struggles, marriage concerns, mental-health challenges, and seasons when wise guidance is needed. With graduate training in biblical counselling, advanced trauma-care certification, and extensive ministry experience, she brings compassionate, Scripture-shaped care to those walking through complex suffering.

Jennifer is especially passionate about helping people see that God’s Word speaks meaningfully into the struggles they face. Her counselling is shaped by prayer, careful attention to Scripture, the role of the body in suffering, and a clinically-informed posture that seeks to care for the whole person.

She desires to help people understand that all their emotions are safe with God. As she walks alongside those who are hurting, Jennifer depends upon the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and bring true and lasting change through the hope of the gospel.

If you or someone you know is looking for Christ-centred, clinically-informed biblical counselling for trauma, spiritual abuse, relational struggles, or marriage concerns, Jennifer may be a helpful counsellor to connect with.

Not every ministry partner is listed on our website.

Today, it was my Uber driver.

After a full day of biblical counselling training and coaching with a local church in Toronto, I discovered one more gift I don’t possess: navigating downtown Toronto traffic on a Saturday afternoon.

Thankfully, someone else does.

Now it’s off to Union Station, grateful for a faithful day of equipping, good conversations, and one very patient driver.

Every training day reminds me that strengthening a church’s counselling ministry isn’t just about what happens in the classroom. It also includes the ordinary moments of travelling, preparing, coaching, and serving together.

If your church has been considering developing a biblical counselling ministry, we’d love to come alongside you. Gospel Care Canada offers ABC Level 1 certification fully online, along with customized in-person training and coaching designed around the unique needs of your church.

Today I’m travelling to Toronto to spend a day with a local church, providing in-person biblical counselling training and coaching.

Together we’ll work through ABC Equipped to Counsel modules, role-play counselling conversations, strengthen practical counselling skills, and spend one-on-one time coaching those who are preparing to care wisely for others.

At Gospel Care Canada, our ABC Level 1 training is available fully online across Canada. We also offer customized, in-person training and coaching for churches that want to strengthen or establish a biblical counselling ministry.

Every church has unique opportunities, challenges, and ministry goals. We enjoy coming alongside church leaders to provide practical training that fits their context.

If your church has been considering biblical counselling training or would like to strengthen an existing care ministry, we’d be glad to begin that conversation.

Parenting is one of life's greatest joys, but it can also be one of its greatest responsibilities.

Many parents and families walk through seasons marked by anxiety, relational tension, uncertainty, or the everyday pressures of raising children and teenagers. Foster and adoptive families often carry additional challenges as they seek to nurture trust, attachment, and stability through complex circumstances. During these seasons, it can be difficult to know where to turn for wisdom, encouragement, and hope.

At Gospel Care Canada, we believe families do not have to navigate these struggles alone. Our biblical counsellors come alongside parents with compassionate listening, thoughtful guidance, and the hope of the gospel. Together, we seek to understand each family's unique story while helping parents respond with wisdom, patience, and confidence rooted in God's Word.

Whether you are navigating parenting challenges, relationship struggles within your family, attachment concerns, anxiety, trauma, or simply the weight of a difficult season, there is hope. Christ-centred, clinically-informed biblical counselling can provide wise support as you care for those the Lord has entrusted to you.

This Care Spotlight features three of our counsellors who have particular experience walking alongside parents and families across Canada:

• Wynie Dearlove — in person (Strathroy, ON) and online across Canada

• Mel Neufeld — online across Canada

• Pamela Rainone — online across Canada

If you or someone you know could benefit from Christ-centred, clinically-informed biblical counselling, we would be honoured to walk alongside you.

She also has a special interest in serving foster and adoptive families. As she walks alongside parents, Wynie encourages them to see God's faithful presence in their family's story and to rely on His wisdom in every season.

Her counselling is shaped by Scripture, prayer, and confidence in God's sovereignty and care. Wynie desires to provide compassionate, Christ-centred care that helps families grow in wisdom, strengthen their relationships, and find lasting hope in Christ.

Ministry can be deeply meaningful, but it can also be deeply demanding.

Pastors and their families often carry burdens that remain unseen. The pressures of ministry, marriage, leadership, and caring for others can gradually give way to anxiety, discouragement, relational strain, shame, or other complex struggles that feel difficult to navigate alone.

At Gospel Care Canada, we believe that those who faithfully care for others sometimes need wise, compassionate care themselves. Our biblical counsellors come alongside pastors, ministry leaders, and their families with patient listening, thoughtful guidance, and the hope of the gospel. Together, we seek to understand life's challenges honestly before the Lord while learning to walk more faithfully with Christ in every circumstance.

Whether you are facing ministry pressure, marriage difficulties, persistent patterns of struggle, or simply feel weary from carrying the weight of caring for others, you do not have to walk through it alone.

This Care Spotlight features three of our counsellors who bring both pastoral experience and biblical counselling training to serve pastors, ministry leaders, and their families across Canada:

• Dave Nannery in-person (Squamish, BC) or online across Canada

• Cody John Simpson in-person (Montreal, QC) or online across Canada

• Rory Friesen online across Canada

If you or someone you know could benefit from Christ-centred, clinically-informed biblical counselling, we would be honoured to walk alongside you.

Meet Dave Nannery, one of Gospel Care Canada's biblical counsellors.

Dave has a heart for walking alongside individuals and couples who are facing life's complex struggles. Drawing from many years of pastoral ministry, his care is grounded in the hope of the gospel and a desire to patiently help people find clarity, wisdom, and renewed hope as they learn to follow Christ through difficult seasons.

Dave regularly supports individuals and couples who are experiencing anxiety, depression, shame, marriage and relational conflict, po*******hy and sexual struggles, chronic illness, trauma, OCD, and persistent thought patterns.

He seeks to create a place where people can slow down, honestly explore what is happening beneath the surface of their lives, and discover how the truth and hope of Scripture speak into their circumstances. Through compassionate, Christ-centred care, Dave desires to help people grow in faithful dependence on Christ while navigating the realities of everyday life.

If you or someone you know is looking for Christ-centred, clinically-informed biblical counselling, Dave may be a helpful counsellor to connect with.
