It was great to be back at the HS 50+ Centre for our first meeting after the summer break!

We caught up and started planning some fun fall activities—including a co****le tournament and chili cook-off in the gym for mid-November. 🌶️🏆

Interested in meeting new people, trying new activities and being part of a welcoming group? Come join the Forest City Men’s Shed—we’d be happy to have you!

What a collection! 🚗

Forest City Men’s Shed members had the incredible opportunity to enjoy a private tour of the Plunkett Estate and Steve Plunkett’s amazing car collection.

Steve’s knowledge and passion for the cars and their history really made the tour something special. His collection includes an incredible number of Cadillacs, along with classics, customs and some truly unique pieces of automotive history — including Johnny Cash’s black Cadillac!

A huge thank you to Steve for taking the time to personally show us around, share the stories behind the cars, and answer all of our questions.

Cars, craftsmanship, history and a group of guys who appreciate anything mechanical — pretty hard to beat that for a Men’s Shed outing.

Thanks again to Steve for the hospitality and a fantastic morning.

Exciting things are taking shape at Forest City Men’s Shed!

Today, we toured North American Trade Schools and got a firsthand look at the facilities where students train in electrical, welding, HVAC, home renovation and carpentry.

Over the coming months, our members will have access to their carpentry shop on Friday afternoons. This will give us a fantastic space to work on personal projects, learn from one another and take on larger group projects that benefit our community.

One of those projects is already in the planning stages: building beds for children in foster care here in the Forest City.

A huge thank you to North American Trade Schools for welcoming us and opening their doors to this partnership. We’re excited about what we can build together—both in the shop and in our community!

New national research led by HelpAge Canada on Men’s Sheds and men’s wellbeing will be shared at our ShedFest West Shedder gathering in Edmonton next week.

The findings show how Men’s Sheds are help reduce isolation and strengthen connection and mental wellbeing among older men across Canada.

This is part of the growing national conversation on men’s and boys’ health, and the role community-based approaches can play in supporting healthier aging.

We’ll share more insights following the event.

We had a great visit out to Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Huge thanks to their team for taking the time to show us around and give us a behind-the-scenes look at the work they do rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife. It was impressive to see the care, effort, and setup that goes into giving these animals a second chance.

From the birds of prey to the groundhog enclosure, there was a lot to take in—and a few close-up moments that made the visit even better.

Another solid outing and a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

If you’ve been thinking about checking us out, this is what we’re all about. Send us a message and come out to a future event.
