The ARIDO Western Ontario Chapter aims to promote the Interior Design profession by building awareness and understanding, supporting local members and contributing to education and professional development. Since its inception in 1934, ARIDO has grown to become the largest professional group of Interior Designers provincially and is the largest provincial regulatory member organization of Interior
Designers of Canada (IDC), the national advocacy association. As a professional body, ARIDO's mandate is to regulate the interior design profession in Ontario for the betterment of the profession and in the best interests of the public. ARIDO sets standards for admission into membership, including education and experience standards, Practice Standards, professional development requirements as well as adherence to a Code of Ethics and Practice Standards. The Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) is the only professional organization for interior designers in Ontario. First established as the Society of Interior Decorators of Ontario in 1934, then Interior Designers of Ontario, the name was changed to the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario in 1984 when the ARIDO Act was passed in the Legislature of Ontario. The act was amended by the passing of Bill Pr6 in 1999 to grant Registered Members who meet ARIDO standards exclusive use of the title Interior Designer in Ontario.
