Service Dogs for Veterans
Nash’s Journey
Nash is an 8-year-old boy that has a heart of gold. When he was 6 years old, he saw a person walking with a service dog. He asked questions about the service dog and started researching them on the internet. He watched videos about service dogs and how they were trained.
Shortly after this, in the summer of 2022, Nash started his fund rising efforts. He started with a yard sale at the Port Stanley Legion Br. 410.
A veteran from St. Thomas heard what Nash was doing and came to his yard sale to meet him. Nash was so excited to meet Andrew Gough and his dog Riggs. Andrew still supports Nash at many of his events. This is how his fundraising began.
He presented his first cheque for $3,145.30 at the District ‘A’ Convention in October 2022, but his fundraising did not stop there. He continued to raise money through out the next 3 years. He comes up with many ideas and, with his family’s help, he is able to organize the events.
Nash has had some organizations donate on his behalf, one of which was the Vienna Swans with their donation of $2,000.00. In June of 2024, Fanshawe College did a Poppy Project Fundraiser. Ontario Command’s Poppy Chair Brian Harris told them about Nash and his fund-raising efforts. They decided to donate the funds raised to Ontario Command on behalf of Nash’s fundraising efforts. Nash was very excited. He invited Andrew Gough, with Riggs and Greg Wing with Wilson to join him at the press conference in London.
Continuing with his fundraising efforts Nash was able to do many other events such as Quarter Auctions, On-line Auctions, Dart Tournaments and his favorite the Cash Calendar. He is working on a Dinner Theater night and a Dog walk-a-thon this summer.
His desire for helping others and raise money for Service Dogs for Veterans is still very strong. To date he has raised $30,474.30 and is still coming up with ideas for this year.
Nash has a huge heart and a passion to help others.
