Rotarians Run to Raise Funds 🏃‍♂️💨

We might not have broken any land speed records at the 44th Annual Forest City Road Races M&T Group, but when it comes to serving our community, this crew always goes the extra mile!

Out of a massive crowd of 1,354 participants, our dedicated club members laced up their sneakers, hit the pavement, and represented us proudly.

🎯 The Real Winner? Our Community.
While we didn't take home any podium finishes for speed, our team's participation scored incredibly high where it matters most: fundraising.

This effort is truly emblematic of what Rotary is all about. Whether it’s right here in our city or through humanitarian initiatives spanning the globe, Rotarians are always ready to step up, take action, and make a tangible difference.

Thank you to everyone who supported our runners, donated, and cheered them on from the sidelines!

On May 11 the Rotary Club of London welcomed Dr.Brant Inman, Chin‑Hardie Chair of Urologic Oncology and Professor of Urology and Oncology at Western University, who presented “Screening for Common Genitourinary Cancers.” With training from the University of Alberta, a urology residency at Université Laval and a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Inman explained how early detection of prostate, bladder and kidney cancers can dramatically improve outcomes. His talk covered detection methods, symptoms that should prompt investigation, current guidelines, and practical risk‑factor insights—highlighting the vital role screening plays in saving lives.

Jim Swan thanked Dr. Inman for an informative session. Membership in the Rotary Club of London continues to provide valuable learning and meaningful opportunities to serve our community.

The Rotary Reading Garden at the Central London Public Librray is open for the season. In September of 2025 the garden was rededicated in a ceremony that recognized Rotary's Role in the creation of the space, as well as the continued support by funding the musical play instruments. Here's a page from the LPL summer brochure and a look back at president Lian Bardaweel accepting a citation from MPP Terence Kernaghan.
Created in 2003 through a Rotary commitment of $400,000, the Reading Garden remains one of the most unique library spaces in North America. You can be part of good works like this by joining Rotary. https://www.rotarylondon.org/

The Rotary Club of London presented a $5,000 donation to Holy Family Catholic School to support their "A Place to Play" playground upgrade. Don Stevens, Local Service Committee Chair, and Howard Shears (the project’s Rotary champion) handed the cheque to School Council Chair Justin Dowdell, who has been leading fundraising for the past five years. The new, inclusive playground will add safe equipment that sparks imagination, movement and friendship for children in the east end of London. The project needs $85,000 total—$70,000 has already been raised thanks to student-led fundraisers and community support. Rotary is honoured to be recognized as a “Champion of Play” and to help create a lasting community asset that will enhance the lives of local children.
