This is a self-management educational project which seeks the wellbeing of all participants through developing the emancipatory practices of collective education, horizontalism, gift economy, and mutual aid. We are building this free school together, which means that you are free to learn, observe, play, and share your knowledge as well. We are all members of the school, we will walk, ask, learn,
and build the world of many worlds together. Teaching classes is an opportunity for anyone, from any type of background. Classes are of a huge variety, we appreciate anyone who has knowledge to offer! You are not going to get a certificate or marks for what you learn, nor will you have to meet any specific curriculum requirements. Every event should have: The name of the teacher, the place, the time, the duration and any materials that people will need to bring to the class. The vast majority of all the materials needed for school (pens / paper / duo tangs) will be supplied by the collective. If there are any special requirements for specific classes/programming - teachers will advise students on the FB event itself prior to class. Gift Economy:
We are operating under a gift economy system, where persons are free to voluntarily exchange gifts between all participants and teachers. We encourage mutual sharing and support to build a self-sustainable community and school of connected like minded individuals. Location:
EVAC (757 Dundas St. E London Ontario) - East Village Arts Collective
********Weds nights 5pm-9pm is regular programming / meetings
(always potluck dinner - so bring foods to share)
Also of note, we are always looking to begin more classes/workshops. We have the option of using the public libraries or post-secondary campuses to hold events. Members of the collective will be looking into bookings and use of their spaces. Code of Respect:
There will be a mutual respect based relationship between all teachers and students, if anyone disrespects a teacher and/or fellow students they are only disrespecting themselves. We will be crafting a safe-space statement for the school, pending the collective's process, and we would ask that individuals/groups respect our wishes regarding ending forms of oppression in all their institutional, symbolic, and individual dimensions. Any member who violates the collective's code of respect will have to deal with any accountability processes that the collective deems necessary. Please be respectful to your fellow members, we are all needed for and in the project of liberation. We firmly believe in the principles of transformative justice and know that no-one is disposable. IF you would like to become a member of the school, we are asking a suggested donation of $5 per month (or more ☺) which entitles members to unlimited access to classes, course materials, literature, and coffee/foods when available. Full members will also entitled to use of EVAC’s silk-screen and button press for collaborative projects. If persons are unable to contribute the suggested monthly donation, any form of contribution or gift is perfectly acceptable. No one will ever be turned away. All proceeds will be used to cover cost of rent and materials for the school, any additional funds go into a pool for the school’s collaborative projects/parties. This is not and will not be, an authoritarian education in any form. We ask to every member to share in the experiences, to learn and to teach, in the spirit of co-operation and mutual aid. Thank you so much to all the current members of the collective and soon to be new members. ¡Enjoy our new school! We are an Anarchist Free School located in London Ontario where everybody is welcome to participate of learning and teaching under the principles of cooperation, share, safety, respect, equality and tolerance. We operate under a free gift economy so you are welcome to share with the other members involve. For a membership we ask for flexible 5 dollars.
