When eight-year-old Lainey suddenly lost vision in her right eye, her family’s ordinary evening became the beginning of a brain tumour journey they never expected.

Months of treatment followed, but so did hope, resilience, art, laughter and connection with other families who understood.

Today, Lainey’s scans remain clear and stable, and the McMahons are finding their way back to the ordinary moments they once took for granted. 💙

Exciting progress in glioblastoma research at The Neuro’s Brain Tumour Research Centre.

We’re proud to support research that advances our understanding of brain tumours and opens new possibilities for treatment.

Thank you to The Neuro and its researchers for their continued dedication to improving outcomes for people affected by brain tumours.

The Neuro’s Brain Tumour Research Centre is entering a transformative phase—bringing insights from the laboratory closer to patient care.

In 2022, Neuro scientists discovered that glioblastoma can originate from dormant neural stem cells that become reactivated and turn cancerous. Building on this breakthrough, researchers identified two key signalling pathways—Notch and BMP—that may play a role in awakening these cells.

Importantly, drugs targeting these pathways already exist, potentially accelerating the path from discovery to treatment.

At just 16 years old, Matthew McKinnon’s life changed with an unexpected brain tumour diagnosis. Two brain surgeries, six rounds of chemotherapy and 30 radiation treatments followed. Today, Matthew is a two-time cancer survivor, husband, father and passionate advocate.

As one of our Community Champions, he is once again helping raise awareness by taking part in Hats For Hope.

What a special night for one of our BrainWAVE families!

Evan and his family are part of our BC BrainWAVE community, where families affected by a pediatric brain tumour can connect, share experiences and enjoy special moments together.

After 18 months of treatment, Evan is now celebrating one year in remission. We’re so happy to see him recognized as the Vancouver Canucks’ Star of the Game!

When you’re caring for someone who has been affected by a brain tumour diagnosis, making time for yourself can sometimes feel difficult.

Join us on October 7, 2026, from 2:00–3:00 p.m. EST for a free guided viewing focused on exploring self-compassion and making space for yourself while supporting someone else.

The event will feature a previously recorded session from the Ontario Caregiver Organization’s (OCO) SCALE program, followed by a facilitated discussion and Q&A with Sarah Calvin, Manager, Regional Engagement at OCO.

Help shape brain tumour support in Halifax!

Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is exploring the creation of a local support group in that area, and we want to hear directly from the community.

If you are living with a brain tumour, are a survivor, caregiver, family member or support someone affected by a brain tumour, join our virtual Community Call on October 14, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. AST, to share what would make a support group meaningful and helpful to you. Your experiences and ideas can help shape everything from meeting topics and formats to scheduling and accessibility.
