THE ASSOCIATION OF IROQUOIS AND ALLIED INDIANS WELCOMES JOEL ABRAM AND STACIA LOFT AS GRAND CHIEF & DEPUTY GRAND CHIEF
London, Ontario, July 23, 2026 – The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians (AIAI) held their selection for Grand Chief and Deputy Grand Chief this year at it’s 57th Annual General Assembly at the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. Using a stand behind process, a traditional method of selection, Joel Abram was selected by the member Nations leadership as Grand Chief, and Stacia Loft, was selected as Deputy Grand Chief through acclamation.
Grand Chief Joel Abram says “I am grateful to the member Nations for their continuing support and the confidence they have in selecting me for the position of Grand Chief of AIAI. I have learned much in my time here, and I will continue to advance our rights protection mandate as well as do the work and advocacy to ensure the basic needs and welfare of our people are progressing, evolving, and advancing. I would also thank Larry Sault for also putting his name forward for the position as he has shown he has the experience having been a former AIAI Grand Chief. I wish him the best going forward as I know he will continue to work for the advancement of our people. I am happy to work with my friend Stacia Loft, our acclaimed Deputy Grand Chief once again, as well as our diligent and dedicated staff at AIAI, and I thank them for their work in advocating for our member Nations”.
Deputy Grand Chief Stacia Loft says “I would like to acknowledge and extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved with AIAI, from the Elders, youth, leadership, and staff of the AIAI member Nations. I am honored and privileged to serve another term as Deputy Grand Chief with AIAI and assume these responsibilities with gratitude. Our work is always at the forefront of my mind, and I take comfort in the support that has been offered to me to continue this work. I would also like to congratulate Grand Chief Joel Abram and I look forward to working alongside him for another term at AIAI”.
The position of AIAI Grand Chief and Deputy Grand Chief is a three-year term and was selected through a traditional stand behind process rather than a ballot. Selection Coordinator Dean Sayers organized the process and operated it based on a method that is more in line with the ways of our people and how we have done so for generations.
