Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. However, people with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks).

Over the next few weeks, YCFC will present each of the different diagnoses under Anxiety as a resource to better understand those living with anxiety.

The CBT model aims to explore the connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. By analyzing these links, the goal is to challenge cognitive distortions that contribute to negative behaviours or feelings. What is Obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD?

OCD is a mental illness that causes repeated unwanted thoughts or sensations (obsessions) or the urge to do something over and over again (compulsions).

Youth with OCD may not function well across multiple domains such as applying their understanding of consent, impaired interpersonal skills and navigating personal boundaries. YCFC's structure and routine can help youth who struggle with problematic sexualized behaviours who may have a comorbid condition such as OCD.

What makes the YCFC Path unique?

YCFC has onsite clinical staff who work closely with the frontline staff and are involved in the day-to-day support and ongoing treatment of each resident. This allows for a more inclusive and client-centred treatment plan through individual and group therapy sessions. YCFC also consults with clinical psychologist Dr. James Worling who specializes in assessing youths with problematic sexualized behaviours.

We have treated young men from across Canada including Indigenous youth, and have an onsite Indigenous Youth Worker and Indigenous cultural learnings that are offered to all residents.
