Hi everyone,
The DDS Equity Initiative Group is excited to collaborate with Dr. Danielle Alcock, Schulich's Indigenous Leader, and Ike Okafor, from UofT's Community of Support program. Together, we're setting up mock interview sessions for disadvantaged applicants who have gotten an interview offer from Schulich Dentistry.

These students are from underrepresented populations in dentistry and often lack the informal and formal supports, including interview prep, that I'm sure many of us benefited from. The mock interviews will run based on your availability and will be entirely over Zoom. You will be matched with an interviewee and will then schedule a session during the time that works for both of you.

Eligible applicants may include, but are not limited to:
- Individuals of under-represented ethnicities (such as Black, Latin American, and Filipino)
- Indigenous applicants
- Individuals with disabilities
- Individuals with socio-economic challenges
- Individuals who have faced other familial and/or socio-cultural barriers such as loss of both parents, being award of Children’s Aid, living in a homeless shelter.

The success of these sessions depends on Schulich dent students who can volunteer as interviewers and give feedback to applicants. The minimum commitment would be for one 50 min session, but if you want to do more, we'd appreciate all the help we can get! Please fill out this form if you're interested

**If you're involved in the admissions process in any way (ie. an admissions class rep, an interviewer on a panel) you, unfortunately, can't help with this prep session**

Dr. Danielle Alcock, Schulich's Indigenous Leader, is working with Community of Support (CoS) to set up mock interview sessions for Indigenous, Black, and ACCESS pathway applicants who have gotten an interview offer from Schulich. These students are from underrepresented populations in dentistry and...

DDS Equity Initiative

The DDS Equity Initiative aims to provide academic and career-related guidance to students from under-represented populations who wish to pursue a career in dental surgery. Our mission is to nurture high-quality mentoring relationships between first-year dental students and undergraduates.

Pre-dental students from underprivileged populations are dramatically under-represented in dental schools all across Ontario. These students have the potential to serve communities that are in greatest need of accessible dental medicine. Despite possessing the required intellectual and interpersonal skills, underprivileged students lack the financial and social capital needed to pursue a career in dentistry. The situation is worsening as tuition fees increase while provincial supports decrease, resulting in talented but overburdened undergraduate students seeing a career in dental medicine as less and less attainable.
