Our S.T.E.M. challenge this week was to build the tallest tower we could using cups and craft sticks. The tower had to stand on its own and support a toy figure. Heights were recorded for successful attempts, and the team with the tallest structure after the time limit won a prize!
There were some frustrations along the way, and we talked about how to manage our emotions when things don't go the way we want them to. One team in particular was very innovative in their approach, but needed to think about time management. We also had a great opportunity to discuss the concept of fairness (one kid commented "it's not fair because the teams that don't win a prize will feel bad!"). At the end of the day it was clear that everybody had fun, and that this activity (as well as the prize bin) should return in the future!
