What a wonderful morning at Doors Open at Village SoHo.

I loved walking through the neighbourhood and learning more about the people and stories that have shaped SoHo over generations. Indigenous history, Black resilience, immigration, families, schools and community.

The new historical installations are beautiful, but more importantly, they make you stop and think about all the lives that existed on these streets long before the buildings we see today.

Being there as President of the London Affordable Housing Foundation made it particularly meaningful for me.

Housing is about so much more than providing four walls and a roof. It’s about home, dignity, belonging and community.

And perhaps one of the best ways to think about where we’re going is to first understand where we’ve been.

Very grateful to have spent my Saturday morning learning a little more about this special corner of London.

Strong roots. Strong communities. A future built with care.

Some of the best conversations happen between swings.

Today I had the pleasure of golfing with three terrific men: Ed from the Chelsea Green, Jim from Homes Unlimited and Marcus from Devonshire Financial.

There was plenty of laughter, a little golf, great conversation and genuine camaraderie. Beyond the scorecard, it was an opportunity to build relationships with people who share a commitment to housing and stronger communities in London.

Leadership is serious work, but relationship-building doesn’t always have to happen around a boardroom table. Sometimes, it happens on the fairway, with a few questionable shots and a whole lot of fun.

Thank you, gentlemen, for such a great day. I’m grateful our paths crossed and look forward to staying connected.

Some people leave a legacy you can feel, even if you never had the privilege of knowing them.

Today I attended the dedication of Martha’s Way at Village SoHo, honouring the late Martha Powell and her remarkable contribution to our community.

I didn’t have the honour of knowing Martha personally. But standing there today, I was struck by how clearly her leadership continues to live on.

As President and CEO of London Community Foundation, Martha believed in bold ideas, strong partnerships and the possibility of creating something better for London. Her early advocacy and support helped pave the way for Village SoHo, including the mixed-income housing community that stands there today.

As President of the London Affordable Housing Foundation, I find myself thinking a great deal about legacy these days.

We inherit the work of people who cared deeply enough to begin something they might never see fully realized. Our responsibility is to honour what they built, learn from it, and have the courage to keep moving it forward.

Martha’s Way is a beautiful and permanent reminder of exactly that.

May everyone who passes this sign remember that one person’s vision, leadership and willingness to champion an idea can change a community for generations.

A beautiful tribute to Martha Powell and a beautiful day for London.

Legacy isn’t only what we leave behind. It’s what others are inspired to carry forward.

This week, I attended a housing town hall hosted by MP Kurt Holman with MP Scott Aitchison.

I appreciated the opportunity to meet them both and share the work of the London Affordable Housing Foundation, including our mixed-income housing model and our commitment to creating safe, sustainable and welcoming communities.

It was a great evening of conversation, connection and learning. As President of LAHF, I believe it is important to be in the rooms where housing is being discussed, listening, contributing and ensuring our experience is part of the conversation.

There is no single answer to Canada’s housing challenges. Progress will require collaboration across government, the private sector and community-based organizations.

LAHF will continue to be part of that work.

Looking back on a truly special day as we celebrated 25 years of Sister Joan Atkinson’s extraordinary leadership with the London Affordable Housing Foundation.

For decades, Sister Joan has led with compassion, humility, and an unwavering commitment to ensuring more people have a safe place to call home. Her impact reaches far beyond housing, it lives on in the lives she has touched, the communities she has strengthened, and the people she has inspired to serve others.

Thank you, Sister Joan, for your remarkable dedication, your vision, and your heart. Your legacy will continue to guide the Foundation and inspire our community for generations to come.
Congratulations once again on this incredible milestone, and thank you for everything you have done for London.

Honouring a Legacy. Building What Comes Next.

The London Affordable Housing Foundation began with a deeply human belief, everyone deserves the dignity and security of a place to call home.

That belief has been at the heart of Sister Joan Atkinson’s leadership and the legacy she has built through LAHF.

As I continue in the role of President, I feel a tremendous responsibility to honour what Sister Joan started while helping prepare LAHF for its next chapter.

That means listening and learning. Strengthening relationships. Building new partnerships. Supporting the people who live and work within our properties. Ensuring that LAHF has the governance and organizational foundation needed to continue serving our community for years to come.

Leadership isn’t always about changing what came before us.

Sometimes it is about understanding what matters most, protecting it, and building thoughtfully upon it.

Sister Joan built something important for London.

Our responsibility now is to ensure that her vision continues to grow, evolve and create impact for generations to come.

Today was one of those days that reminded me why relationships matter so much in leadership and in community.

I had the opportunity to bring Sister Joan back to River Ridge to show her the many updates that have taken place over the past few months. Seeing her excitement as she toured the building and reconnected with our wonderful superintendent, Joanna, was truly special.

We then shared a lovely lunch together and spent time reflecting on how far this project has come.

Affordable housing isn’t simply about bricks and mortar. It’s about creating places where people feel a sense of belonging, dignity, connection, and hope.

I’m grateful for leaders like Sister Joan, whose vision helped make this work possible, and for team members like Joanna, who bring that vision to life every day.

Sometimes, the most meaningful progress isn’t measured in meetings, reports, or spreadsheets. It’s measured in the smiles shared around a lunch table.

Today was one of those days that reminded me why community matters.

We officially furnished the lobby at our new building River Ridge at 385 Hill Street. We have created a warm and welcoming space for our residents to gather, connect, read, relax, and simply feel at home.

One of the highlights of the day was meeting one of our wonderful tenants, Caitlyn, who rolled up her sleeves and jumped in to help. Her kindness and willingness to contribute made the day even more special.

Affordable housing is about so much more than bricks and mortar. It’s about creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and connected.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to support the work of the London Affordable Housing Foundation. Together, we’re building more than housing. We’re building community.

At the London Affordable Housing Foundation, we often talk about housing, buildings, and community partnerships.

But a home is built with more than bricks and mortar.

Today, I want to extend my sincere thanks to Elise Nagel and Silvia from the London Chamber of Commerce for their thoughtful gift of Shared Waters: London Listens.

This beautiful book will have a permanent place in the new lobby at River Ridge, 385 Hill Street, where residents, guests, and community members can enjoy it.

Small gestures often have a much bigger impact than we realize. A book placed on a table can spark a conversation, create a moment of reflection, preserve local stories, and strengthen a sense of belonging.

Thank you for your generosity, your partnership, and your commitment to our community.

Together, we continue to create spaces that feel less like buildings and more like home.

One of the greatest joys of creating affordable housing isn't opening a building, it's welcoming people home.

Today, we are delighted to celebrate Carrie, one of the newest residents of River Ridge, London's newest affordable housing community in Village Soho.

A home is so much more than four walls. It's a place to feel safe, build new friendships, create new memories, and look toward the future with hope.

At the London Affordable Housing Foundation, this is why we do what we do. Every set of keys represents a fresh start and a reminder that everyone deserves a place to call home.
