This Pride Season, the Gender Equality Coalition of Ontario (GECO) celebrates the progress made in advancing 2SLGBTQIA+ rights while recognizing that the fight for equality is far from over.
Pride is rooted in protest, and today that legacy continues. LEAF is intervening before the Supreme Court of Canada in a case that will examine whether courts can publicly declare when laws enacted using the notwithstanding clause violate Charter rights. The case arises from Saskatchewan's pronoun law and has significant implications for trans and non-binary youth, whose identities and experiences deserve recognition, dignity, and protection.
At GECO, we believe that equality, inclusion, and human rights must be defended whenever they are challenged. We stand in solidarity with trans and non-binary youth and all 2SLGBTQIA+ communities advocating for respect, safety, and justice.
To learn more about this important case and the work being done to advance equality rights in Canada, we encourage you to follow and support LEAF.
