This Pride Season, the Gender Equality Coalition of Ontario (GECO) celebrates the progress made in advancing 2SLGBTQIA+ rights while recognizing that the fight for equality is far from over.

Pride is rooted in protest, and today that legacy continues. LEAF is intervening before the Supreme Court of Canada in a case that will examine whether courts can publicly declare when laws enacted using the notwithstanding clause violate Charter rights. The case arises from Saskatchewan's pronoun law and has significant implications for trans and non-binary youth, whose identities and experiences deserve recognition, dignity, and protection.

At GECO, we believe that equality, inclusion, and human rights must be defended whenever they are challenged. We stand in solidarity with trans and non-binary youth and all 2SLGBTQIA+ communities advocating for respect, safety, and justice.

To learn more about this important case and the work being done to advance equality rights in Canada, we encourage you to follow and support LEAF.

šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ Pride is more than a celebration—it is a commitment to ensuring that every person can live authentically, safely, and with dignity.

We have a question for you, Q***r Youth - What do you see in your future? What do you want more of? Envision it, and manifest it with tonight's activity. We're making vision boards! All materials are provided, but if you want to bring personal items to decorate your board, please do so.

Not part of Q***r Qlub yet? We can't wait for you to join us! Message us and we'll get you started on the sign-up process. (Q***r Qlub is for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 12-18.)

2SLGBTQIA+ youth and young adults need a place where they can feel like they belong in safety and acceptance. They deserve a place where they can comfortably be themselves. The Rainbow Connections Hub is that safe place.

The Rainbow Connections Hub is located at 15 St Catharine Street, third floor, in Downtown St Thomas. We're open Monday to Thursday from 2-5 PM. The Hub is an affirming space for q***r, questioning, and trans youth and young adults to stop by, hang out and chat, play a game, grab a snack from the Community Pantry, and collect community resources.

See you at The Hub!

Don’t forget - Pride started as a riot to protest injustice and inequality toward the 2SLGBTQIA+ and gender-diverse community. Why do we still need a Pride Month? Because homophobia and transphobia still exist today, often backsliding through misinformation and hate. The 2SLGBTQIA+ community still faces discrimination, exclusion, and violence. Community is about belonging, safety, acceptance of others for what they can't change about themselves, love, and working together. This includes the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

This June, show your solidarity and pride through support, refusing to stay silent, standing up for others, and choosing love over hate.

GECO believes that gender justice can only be achieved when all intersectional genders are included. We are committed to diversity and inclusion, valuing individuals from all intersectionalities.

To the 2SLGBTQIA+ community - You matter. You belong. You are valued. You are seen. You are loved.

Happy Pride!
