Happy International Womens Day from CCIR and MRCSSI! International Women's Day (IWD) has its roots in the early 20th century, when women around the world were beginning to demand better working conditions, voting rights, and an end to discrimination.

Over time, IWD has evolved into a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is a day to recognize the progress that has been made in the fight for gender equality, but also to acknowledge the ongoing struggles and injustices that women continue to face.

Today, IWD is celebrated in countries around the world. It is a day to honour the women who have come before us and paved the way for our progress, while also continuing to push forward towards a more just and equal world for all.

Let us celebrate the women who paved the way for us to have a voice today, while also standing in solidarity for those who still need to be heard. Let's keep fighting for equality and justice, not just on International Women's Day, but every day.

Let us celebrate Black History Month together as we honour, remember, and learn together. Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black people in Canada and their communities. It serves as a time to not only remember and learn about the legacies of Black Canadians and Black communities, but to celebrate the achievements and triumphs of these legacies.

Understanding the nuance and intersectionality of the experiences of BIPOC communities is essential to the work we do at CCIR and MRCSSI when it comes to implementing culturally integrative responses. Swipe to learn more ways you can support .

Each year, September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as well as Orange Shirt Day-an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”.

Today, we recognize and honour the Indigenous communities affected by the residential school system and its harmful legacy. Remembering and recognizing the tragic and painful history as well as the ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. We encourage all Canadians to honour survivors and those affected by the residential school system by taking a moment to educate ourselves and raise awareness.
