Recovery works best when people feel safe, respected, and supported for who they are.

At Thorpe Recovery Centre, we believe every person deserves dignity, compassion, and a place where they can focus on healing without fear of judgement.

Pride Month is an important reminder that inclusion matters. Creating respectful spaces means listening, learning, and making sure people feel seen and valued throughout their recovery journey.

Support starts with respect, and recovery grows stronger in community.

Each day includes a mix of structured programming, group sessions, meals, and time to reflect or reset.

Clients spend time learning about addiction, building coping strategies, and working through real-life situations in a supportive environment.

There’s also space for connection, whether that’s during meals, downtime, or shared conversations throughout the day.

No two days are exactly the same, but the structure is there to support progress.

Some days your mind feels full of everything at once.

Slowing down, getting outside, and taking it one step at a time can help bring things back into focus.

Not everything needs your attention all at once.

Routine might not seem like much, but in recovery, it matters.

Having a place to be, people to connect with, and a general flow to the day helps reduce overwhelm and create a sense of stability.

It’s not about having a perfect schedule. It’s about having something to come back to each day.

Language matters, especially when we talk about addiction, healing, and recovery. The words used in recovery often carry deeper meaning, and understanding them can help create more supportive and informed conversations.

Here are a few more terms you may hear:

Relapse
Relapse is a return to substance use after a period of sobriety. It can be part of some people’s recovery journey and is often used as a learning opportunity to strengthen future strategies and supports.

Sobriety
Sobriety refers to living without the use of substances. For many, it also includes building a healthier, more stable lifestyle beyond substance use.

Withdrawal
Withdrawal is the physical and mental symptoms that can occur when someone stops using substances. These symptoms can vary depending on the substance and may require medical support.

Peer Support
Peer support involves connecting with others who have lived experience with addiction and recovery. These connections can provide understanding, encouragement, and a sense of community.

Understanding these terms helps reduce stigma and supports more open, informed conversations around recovery.

Our residential program is typically 56 days.

During that time, clients take part in structured programming focused on understanding addiction, building coping strategies, and developing tools to support long-term recovery.

Recovery doesn’t end after those 56 days, but it’s an important place to start.

This week we were celebrating Mona!

For the past 15 years, Mona has been part of the everyday moments that help make Thorpe feel welcoming and supportive. Through her hard work, kindness, and care for both clients and staff, she has made a lasting impact on so many people who have walked through our doors.

Whether it is preparing meals, sharing conversations, or simply showing up day after day with compassion, Mona plays an important role in the community here at Thorpe.

Thank you, Mona, for 15 years of dedication and care. We are grateful for everything you do.

Recovery does not end when treatment does.

Many individuals continue their recovery journey through continuing care, peer support, counselling, and community programs that help reinforce the tools learned during treatment.

Staying connected to support systems can make a meaningful difference in maintaining long-term recovery and navigating life’s challenges.

At Thorpe, we encourage alumni to stay connected and continue building the community that supports recovery beyond the program.
