Dalhousie University FREE, 1 hour:
In today’s volatile market, sustainability isn't just an environmental goal—it’s a core strategy for long-term business survival. We will begin this workshop by providing an overview of foundational sustainable business approaches before focusing in on how small and medium-sized businesses in Nova Scotia can leverage a "climate lens" to protect their bottom line. Specifically, we will explore two critical pillars: Efficiency and Resilience. We will dive into how daily operational efficiency directly translates to lower greenhouse gas emissions and reduced utility bills, effectively offsetting upfront investments with consistent, long-term savings. Beyond the day-to-day, we’ll address resilience as a safeguard against both climate-driven hazards—like the increasing frequency of hurricanes—and global shocks, such as energy price spikes or shifting tariffs.
Attendees will walk away with a practical roadmap for action, ranging from "quick-win" energy swaps to planning major building retrofits. We will cut through the noise of available programs to show you exactly how to access resources and navigate government requirements. By the end of this session, you’ll know not only which sustainable approaches fit your business model but also exactly what data you need to collect to unlock the funding that makes these upgrades possible.
