When an emergency is predicted in your area, or if it’s the start of a hazard period like wildfire season, it’s important to have a go-bag at the ready!

A go-bag is an essential pack that every family member – including pets -- should have ready in case you need to evacuate your home at a moment’s notice. In an emergency, ever minute matters – don’t get caught off guard!

It’s Clear in Queens!

For the past five months, garbage in Queens County has been switched to clear bags for garbage. Residents have been doing great during the transition period. When the switch to clear first took place, Municipal staff had calls and emails asking for clarification. What we are seeing on collection days makes it clear that residents have adapted to the change!

We want to remind everyone that starting July 1st, clear bags are required for garbage (maximum of 6, including the option of a black privacy bag). After July 1st, extra bags will be left behind with a sticker to advise that only one black bag of the maximum of 6 garbage bags is allowed.

WHAT IS ACCEPTED IN CLEAR BAGS?
Following is the list of what can go in a clear garbage bag:
• all wipes (baby, cleaning & hygienic)
• books
• CD’s & DVD’s
• clothing
• coffee pods
• cookware, pots & pans
• diapers
• dryer sheets & lint
• footwear
• glass - broken bottles, drinking glasses, vases, heat treated & window glass (wrapped for safety)
• pet waste/pet litter
• toys
• vacuum cleaner bags

WHAT GOES IN A BLACK PRIVACY BAG?
• personal hygiene products
• medical waste

Download the R6Recycles app wherever you get your apps to take the guesswork out of what goes where. It provides helpful information about whether something is garbage, recyclable, hazardous waste, and “where it goes”.
Or visit our website and use the Wizard! Type in the item you have sorting questions about, and it will tell you how to dispose of it: https://www.regionofqueens.com/municipal-services/works/waste-management/waste-collection-schedule/

Good evening everyone,
We have an increased number of residents experiencing respiratory illness right now. For this reason, we are implementing mandatory masking for all staff and visitors, and we ask that all unnecessary visits be postponed at this time.

Thank you for your cooperation, we hope this passes quickly!
