Miners for Cancer Hockey Tournament Weekend Wrap-Up
What a weekend. The Miners for Cancer Hockey Tournament once again brought together our mining community for an unforgettable few days of hockey, camaraderie, and giving back — all in support of a cause that means so much to the North.
On the ice, the competition was strong across both divisions:
A Division Champions: Victaulic
B Division Champions: Glencore
Congratulations to both teams for their hard-earned wins and for setting the bar high all weekend long.
While there were no new teams joining us this year, the tournament once again showcased the depth and loyalty of the Miners for Cancer hockey family. Teams from across the region came together, with many rosters featuring players who travel back year after year to be part of this special event. That commitment speaks volumes about what this tournament represents.
One of the standout highlights of the weekend was the Mini Sticks Tournament, proudly sponsored by Watershed 144. It was the perfect kickoff to our 30th year, delivering big smiles, great energy, and a reminder that Miners for Cancer is about community as much as competition.
We were also honoured to recognize Sandvik with a 30 Years of Service Award, marking three decades of unwavering support. In an incredible show of generosity, Miners for Cancer also presented a $30,000 cheque to Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer, helping us mark our 30th anniversary in a truly meaningful way.
Off the ice, the atmosphere didn’t slow down. Nightly entertainment kept the energy high, the laughs coming, and the rink buzzing long after the final whistles blew.
To every team, sponsor, volunteer, and supporter who made this weekend a success — thank you. All money raised in the North stays in the North, and weekends like this remind us why Miners for Cancer continues to thrive after 30 incredible years.
Here’s to the memories made this weekend — and to many more still to come. 💛
