Community Living Trent Highlands Invites OPSEU Local 358 Back to the Bargaining Table
Management Team Makes Bid to End 20 Day Old Strike and Address Union Concerns Locally
The Management Team at Community Living Trent Highlands has invited its Union Local 358 back to the bargaining table in a bid to end the 20 day old strike which began at midnight on Friday, May 22nd.
Local 358 of OPSEU represents more than 300 of CLTH's full and part-time staff.
“While we certainly are aware of the Union’s province-wide efforts to seek a retroactive increase from the provincial government, we're committed to supporting and further strengthening our relationship with Local 358 and their members in Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton” said Teresa Jordan, CLTH Executive Director. “Tuesday, I reached out to the Union’s local leadership and asked them back to the table to finish negotiating a mutually agreeable contract at the local level” she said.
Founded in 2017 from three agencies that date back to the 1950s and 60s, CLTH serves approximately 1,000 people who live throughout Peterborough, the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County. CLTH is funded primarily by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services although it receives additional funding from the City of Kawartha Lakes and many others.
“I asked the Union to meet us because we believe this is the best way to settle this strike and get people back to work," Jordan said. “We’re willing to meet any time, as early as this afternoon” she said.
