Today, on the 2026 International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, we join Canadians in recognizing the men and women who serve in UN missions across the globe.

Canada has contributed more than 125,000 military, police, and civilian personnel to peacekeeping efforts over the decades, helping protect vulnerable communities, support ceasefires, and build lasting peace.

We honour their commitment, their sacrifice, and their legacy.

What Does a Veteran Look Like?

When you picture a Veteran, do you see someone from WWI or WWII? Someone older, wearing medals and sharing stories from long ago?

The reality is that Veterans are all around us. They are young and old. They are mothers, fathers, spouses, neighbours, coworkers, first responders, and community volunteers. Some served overseas, while others served here at home. Every one of them answered the call to serve.

Yet many Veterans today face challenges that often go unseen, including homelessness, hunger, financial hardship, and isolation. That's why the Veterans Association Food Bank is dedicated to ensuring no Veteran faces these struggles alone. Through critical resources, compassionate care, housing support, employment assistance, advocacy services, and a strong sense of community, they help Veterans rebuild stability and hope.

A Veteran doesn't look just one way. A Veteran looks like someone who served.

And they need our support.

On behalf of all of us at the Veterans Association, we extend our deepest gratitude to our American friends, Veterans, active-duty military members, and the families who have supported them through their service and sacrifice.

May we never forget those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy today.

The Lethbridge community stepped up to show support for veterans, as the donation van had to be emptied to make room for additional donations of food and essential items for local veterans and their families.

The "Stuff the Van" donation drive by the Veterans Association Food Bank last month brought the Lethbridge community together to support local veterans in need. The community showed up in great numbers throughout the day to donate food and supplies. The event was built around the idea that small acts of kindness can make a big difference for veterans who once chose to serve their country.

The donations from the Lethbridge community went directly to veterans and families who need help. Organizers explained that many veterans face challenges after leaving military service, including injuries, financial stress, and difficulties adjusting to civilian life. Some are forced to choose between paying for food, rent, or medication.

The Veterans Association Food Bank has been serving the community for about four years, providing not only food hampers but also peer support and understanding through its “veterans helping veterans, backed by community” approach. During the donation drive, some people donated small items, while others arrived with full bags prepared for the drive.

Southern Alberta… this one’s for you 👀

From Lethbridge to Medicine Hat, Brooks to Crowsnest Pass, and every small town in between… imagine the impact if just a fraction of Southern Albertans donated $5 once a year to support local Veterans.

If only 1/4 of Southern Alberta donated $5 annually, it could raise over $437,500 to help Veterans and their families with:
Food support

Emergency assistance

Outreach programs

Community care

That’s less than a coffee or a fast-food meal.

📍 Donations can be made:

At 4 Co-op Gas Bar locations in Lethbridge and Taber
