Great work Lethbridge Police Service

Lethbridge Police removed an impaired driver from the road and issued 67 tickets during an ongoing targeted traffic enforcement project over the weekend.

The ongoing initiative, which takes place annually throughout the summer months, targets high-risk and nuisance driving behaviours. In addition to the tickets, police also issued an Immediate Roadside Sanction warning and apprehended one suspended driver and another operating a vehicle without insurance, resulting in the vehicle being towed.

During these projects, members of the Traffic Response Unit (TRU) provide a highly visible presence and target drivers responsible for speeding, stunting, racing, excessive noise, equipment violations and other aggressive and illegal driving. This work is in addition to regular traffic enforcement conducted by TRU and patrol officers.

The initiative is ongoing and police are advising motorists a zero-tolerance approach will be maintained. Repeat offenders who fail to address previously identified equipment violations may be subject to licence plate and registration seizure. Vehicles may also be towed, and owners required to complete mandatory repairs under Section 66 of the Traffic Safety Act before the vehicle is permitted back on the road.

The public is encouraged to continue reporting violations and high-risk driving behaviour by calling 403-328-4444. Public reports and traffic data analysis help guide enforcement priorities and police deployment.

💬 IF YOUR CAR COULD SPEAK…

What would it tell you?

“Please wear your seatbelt.”
“That text isn’t worth it.” 📱
“Leave more room ahead.”
“Let’s make it home together.” 💙

The quietest reminders often matter the most.

Every drive is a chance to choose safety for you, your passengers, and everyone else on the road.

No drinking. No distractions. Just a safe way home.

🚦 A green light gives you the right of way—but it doesn’t guarantee safety.

Taking one extra second to check both ways can help you catch a driver running a red light or another surprise hazard.

Defensive driving isn’t about assuming the worst—it’s about staying ready for the unexpected.

💙 Ease off the gas. Keep your eyes up. Let’s make our roads safer, together.

đźš— Real talk for new drivers

Got one tip you’d pass on to someone just starting out? What would it be?

Could be “put the phone away,” could be “seatbelt = non-negotiable,” could be “if you’ve had a drink, call a ride instead.” Doesn’t matter how simple it sounds sometimes the simple stuff is exactly what sticks.

👇 Drop it in the comments. You never know whose habits you might change.

🚨 Some of the biggest driving risks aren’t always obvious—they’re everyday habits.

A quick glance at your phone. Following a little too closely. Driving just a bit over the speed limit. These small decisions can have serious consequences.

Take a moment to check your own driving habits:
📵 Keep your phone out of reach.
đźš— Leave a safe following distance.
⚠️ Drive within the speed limit.
đźš« Never drive impaired.

Every safe choice helps protect you, your passengers, and everyone sharing the road.

Would you be ready if your car broke down today? 🚨

A roadside emergency can happen when you least expect it. A well-stocked emergency kit can help keep you safe while you wait for assistance.

Here are six essentials every driver should keep in their vehicle.

✔️ Be prepared.
✔️ Be safe.

🚦 Road safety starts with the choices we make every day.

The City of Lethbridge has launched a year-round traffic safety messaging campaign to help keep drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians informed about seasonal road risks and safe driving practices.

At MADD Lethbridge, we support every effort to make our roads safer. While road signs can remind us, it’s our actions behind the wheel that truly make the difference.

Remember to:
đźš— Drive sober.
📵 Stay focused.
🚶 Watch for pedestrians and cyclists.
🚦 Obey traffic signs and speed limits.

Every safe choice helps protect lives and build a stronger, safer community.

💙 Together, let’s make Lethbridge’s roads safer for everyone.
