Oldman Watershed Council (OWC)

Oldman Watershed Council (OWC) The OWC is a non-profit working throughout southern Alberta to improve watershed health for all.

The Oldman Watershed Council (OWC) is a charitable not-for-profit organization working extensively with communities and organizations throughout southern Alberta; helping them understand the importance of healthy watersheds and what can be done to maintain this. Their vision is one of a healthy, resilient watershed where people, wildlife and habitat thrive. Through various programs and management

plans that have been since implemented in the watershed, stakeholders and over fifty regular volunteers have generated a strong support system, contributing their expertise, enthusiasm, and dedication towards the overall success of the OWC. Also contributing, are the 16 board members and four staff members who are responsible for the decision making, completing and overseeing of the day to day operations at the OWC.

Thank you to everyone who joined OWC’s Ecosystem Services Value Calculator webinar.
The webinar introduced our new calculator, which helps estimate the annual value of ecosystem services provided by different land types in southern Alberta, including wetlands, riparian areas, forests, grasslands, shrublands, and open water.
Ecosystem services include benefits like water filtration, flood control, drought resilience, habitat maintenance, air filtration, and water supply. While the value of healthy landscapes goes far beyond a dollar amount, the calculator offers a practical way to better understand the measurable benefits nature provides to communities, economies, and long-term water security.
