Windy City Canine Rescue The Windy City Canine Rescue is a small breed dog rescue operating in Southern Alberta.

The Windy City Canine Rescue is operated by a group of volunteers based in Lethbridge, AB helping older dogs in need of a home. Our goal is to make sure that a dog that has already had one family, finds his/her perfect match this time around. 🐾 LAST BUT NOT LEAST… ANGUS, AKA DINGUS! 🐾

We’re wrapping up our Guess the Breed Challenge with Angus, or more fondly known as Dingus. 😂

Angus came to us from the Flathead Animal Shelter in Kalispell, and let’s just say… what he lacks in smarts, he makes up for in a face that apparently only his daddy could love. 🤣❤️

Why daddy, you ask? Because when Dad is around, Mom might as well be chopped liver! 😂 This boy has his favourite person, and he makes absolutely no effort to hide it.

Angus is a happy-go-lucky guy who is blissfully oblivious to the world around him and firmly believes that everyone he meets should be his best friend. He’s got a heart of gold, not a thought in his head, and a whole lot of love to give. 🥰

🐾 Guess the Breed Challenge – Meet Junior! 🐾

Next up in our Guess the Breed Challenge is Junior!

Don’t let his tiny size fool you—Junior is packed full of personality. At just 8 pounds, he’s convinced he runs the entire house, and honestly, the other dogs seem perfectly happy to let him think that!

Junior came into our care in 2015 after having some disagreements with the resident dog in his previous home. Since then, he’s settled into life and continues to prove that confidence isn’t measured in pounds.

What he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in attitude, charm, and determination.

Assured that there is a perfect family out there for such a perfect boy, Tommy continues waiting patiently for his people to come find him. 🗺️🧭

Handsome, gentle, and oh-so-affectionate, Tommy really is the whole package. With his friendly nature, he is excellent with kids and strangers. Tommy loves meeting new people and has been motivated to strengthen his three remaining legs on his walks in order to get out there and make new friends. He has even more recently started to enjoy some playtime with the resident dogs in his foster home. 🐾🐾🐾

With cooler weather on its way, there’s nothing quite like a cuddly Pyrenees-mix like Tommy to keep you feeling warm and cozy. His affinity for relaxing makes him the perfect friend to have for quiet indoor days and his love of socializing means he will also be game when it’s time for some adventures. Even with a wee stubborn streak adding some flair to his sweet personality, Tommy remains the goodest boy. 🥇

Next up for our Guess the Breed Challenge is Thomas! 🐶🔍

Thomas joined Windy City in 2014 after coming to us from a shelter in California. After reading through his paperwork and seeing that he had been returned to the shelter THREE times because of severe separation anxiety, it was an easy decision for his foster family — Thomas wasn’t leaving again! ❤️

Turns out, all Thomas really needed was some furry friends to keep him company, and it took away so many of his worries! 🥰

Thomas is a medium-sized boy weighing around 25 pounds, with a playful and cuddly personality… with just a little side of anxiety. 😜🐾

One of our amazing foster homes has FOUR Windy City alumni and recently purchased Embark Dog DNA Test DNA tests through our partner program. While we wait for the results, we thought it would be fun to see who can guess their breeds! 🐶🧬

We’re kicking off our Guess the Breed Contest with Windy City alum Sage! And the winner will get a $25 gift card courtesy of King Mickey

Sage came into rescue in 2018 from Mexico and has been living her best life ever since. ❤️ She’s a smart girl who weighs about 25 pounds and has the tiniest, daintiest little feet. Her favourite things are going for walks and acting as the resident mom to all the other dogs in the home. 🐶

About Me:
I’m a crusty Chihuahua with a heart of gold and a list of standards that some might call unreasonable. I prefer to think of them as boundaries.

I enjoy long naps, warm blankets, being carried around like the tiny king I am, and reminding everyone that the mailman is a threat to society. I’m kennel trained, house trained, and exceptionally talented at becoming your entire personality.

🎉 Introducing Lucy 🎉

Lucy is a Beagle mix around 6-8 years old looking for a home where she can live out her best life surrounded by the love she deserves. 💗

Having healed up after her vet visits thanks to plenty of rest in her foster home, Lucy is now ready to get back to the fun parts of life in a home of her own. Characteristically Beagle-y on her walks, she is looking forward to getting that nose to the ground and thoroughly enjoying a new neighbourhood. Despite making her post-surgery getup look exceptionally stylish, Lucy will be happy to shed her current fashion statement in order to best enjoy all the scritches and lovin’ that are surely on their way from the family she is patiently waiting for. 🎩

Lucy has had excellent manners while in her foster home. Unbothered by the resident cat, patient with her foster home’s visiting grandchildren, and ready to engage in play with a canine companion, this girl’s nature is just the sweetest. With regular trips outside, she has been avoiding messes and she is always receptive to a cookie or two. She may be vocal at times because of those strong Beagle genes but sometimes needing some cuddles really is an issue that needs to immediately be brought to someone’s attention. ⚠️

If you are in need of a sweet gal with plenty of beauty, inside and out, then you might just be who Lucy has been looking for. 🔍

A huge thank you to Lori and all of her amazing clients at Hair Of The K9 for choosing Windy City Canine Rescue as the recipient of September’s Tips of Hope donation!
