Carleton Road Industries Association

Carleton Road Industries Association CRIA is a non-profit, charitable Adult Service Centre located in Lawrencetown, Annapolis Valley. We welcome special requests and provide free estimates.

Programs:

Employment Programs:
Community (Supported) Employment: This program offers participants who have demonstrated their work preparedness, employment opportunities within the community with support to attain and maintain employment. Options for the Supported Employment Program can be individual jobs, mobile work crews or work stations at an equitable wage in the competitive marketplace. The

se placements vary both in schedule and duration and are specific to the needs and abilities of the participant and the business. CRIA may perform the duty of developing job opportunities through education of employers, partnerships with other community resources, etc. Broadened Day Options: The Centre offers options of service, which differ from the conventional on and off-site vocational programs. Broadened Day Options are programs designed based on the individual needs of the person. This is an alternative to paid employment placement and offers opportunities for community integration socialization and development of skills and abilities. Provisions of these services must clearly concentrate on the individual’s choice, strengths, and needs. This program may include recreational or educational opportunities and volunteer placements. School to Work Transition: This program is offered to students who have been identified with a disability and require individualized programming. This transitional process is at least three years in duration (three years remaining prior to graduation) and is entered co-operatively at the request of a student, school representative, or parent/guardian. CRIA has a commitment to school and community partners to participate in transition planning so that these students may experience good quality of life in the community as adults. Other Programs:
Health & Wellness Program: A program implemented to assist and encourage participant’s to live a healthy lifestyle by making healthy food choices and exercising. Education on following Canada’s food guide and instruction on preparing healthy meals and snacks is provided through our Cooking class offered in the Life Skills program. This program also encompasses a recreation and leisure component which CRIA encourages participants to partake in activities at the Centre. This could be utilizing one of the several pieces of exercise equipment on site, participating in sporting activities, attending CRIA’s summer camp, social days or various other activities held on/off site. Services & On Site Productions:

Custom Woodworking: The Woodworking Department produces a wide variety of products for commercial and residential customers upon receiving contracts or single orders. To meet this demand the Woodworking Department employs participants all year. A wide variety of hand and power tools are utilized for training; experience in this area is acquired based on preference and ability. Our biggest production every year is lawn furniture however; new projects are continuously being undertaken as there is an increasing demand for handcrafted items. Some examples of our best sellers are: picnic tables, adirondack chairs, benches, lawn swings, washer (ring) toss, kindling, survey stakes and more. Our Woodworking crew is experienced and welcomes any new job or inquiry. To request a quote or for more information email: [email protected]

Property Maintenance: The Property Maintenance Department provides quality services, commercially or residentially, for contract or occasional customers at a competitive rate. We strive to provide you with the best care by having clean, functional and appropriately sized equipment for the job at hand and we work hard to maintain your property as you would like to have it. Examples of some of our services are: lawn cutting, spring/fall clean up, wood piling, brush & limb cutting, bush hogging and hedging. XTR Gas & Go: CRIA’s XTR Gas & Go, formally the Co-op, officially opened on January 21, 2008. It is believed that we are the first such organization in Canada to own and operate this type of facility; operated by participants with staff support. Participants are taught retail, customer service and social skills as well as how to safely dispense petroleum products. Over the span of each month the majority of our participants are scheduled at the Gas Bar, and our employee roster continues to grow. The opportunity for community inclusive employment was well received among our participants and customers, and sales have continued to increase due to the support of our surrounding communities. We offer Regular gas, Diesel, a stock of automotive fluids, plus the benefits of full serve, we are striving to provide a service in this industry that is all too hard to find. With smaller full serve gas stations closing their doors at a rapid rate, we’re positive that if it weren’t for satisfied repeat customers we wouldn’t be as successful as we are today. Please stop by some time and take advantage of the benefits of full serve and give back to the community while assisting our participants to learn and acquire new skills and abilities. Other Services: We are also available for commercial packaging, photocopying services, collating coupons and flyers, delivering phone books, recycling, debris removal and various other contracts. Contact Carleton Road Industries Association as we may be the company for the job.

We then enjoyed a picnic while we were out—the weather was perfect for it!
And earlier this week we spent some time in the kitchen making a pasta dish! What should our participants cook next?
