Did you know that lichens can serve as bioindicators to determine air quality and environmental health?

That is one of the many interesting facts that we learned on our Lichen Nature Stroll this weekend! Garima Wilson from taught us all about lichen, how to identify different types, and why monitoring lichen is so important! She engaged participants with an interactive display of different lichen samples, books, and even a microscope!

Thank you Garima for taking the time to share your extensive knowledge and lead this nature stroll!

If you want to join us for our next Nature Stroll, you can keep an eye out on our website, or email us at [email protected]

Our swallow boxes are cleaned out and ready for returning swallows!🏡

Last Friday, six volunteers helped us clean out and repair the swallow boxes at Muench Bar to prepare them for a new nesting season! Thank you to everyone who made it out, and we are excited to see more and more activity around these boxes as the swallows choose their homes and move in🤩🐦

We had two fantastic work parties last weekend!🙌

On Saturday, we braved the blackberries and harvested red osier dogwood whips from our whip farm in Derby Reach.

On Sunday, we brought the whips down the Fraser River to stake them into the shore line. These whips will root into the bank, and help protect the shore line from erosion🌾

Thank you so much to all of our volunteers who made it out each day to harvest and stake the willow whips, and thank you Lisa at and Oliver for all of your help!

The volunteers at our event yesterday were small but mighty!🙌

15 Kindergartens from the Langley Environmental Awareness Program helped us mulch one of our planting sites at Meunch Bar!🪴

These students spend the majority of their week learning outside and visit different parks and green spaces every Friday. This is an incredible program that allows students to experience meaningful connections with nature, and teaches the importance of stewardship.

Thank you to the LEAP program and to all of the students, teachers, and parents who helped with this event!
