In a very restrictive country in West Asia, we are helping to launch the first Christian TV channel. In West Asia, TV programs are often the only way to bring the Good News to difficult areas because personal visits are not possible.

In Southeast Asia, birthday parties allow believers to share their faith freely. In one Southeast Asian country, a couple attended a Christian child’s birthday party with their son. A pastor was in attendance, and he got to know the couple and shared the gospel with them. After spending most of the party talking together, the couple decided that they wanted to become Christians too.

Praise God for opportunities like this for believers in Southeast Asia!

Son*, a man in Southeast Asia, came to know Christ at the funeral of a Christian acquaintance. He was a lifelong alcoholic and, during the funeral service, a pastor shared a Bible verse that touched Son’s heart. Afterward, he spoke to the pastor, who explained the gospel to him and promised God could free him from his addiction. Son gave his heart to Christ right then, and he hasn’t had any alcohol since.

During the following two weeks, Son won his whole family to Christ. They became a ten-person house church, meeting together each week. Son plans to attend an ICR-Canada sponsored training for Christian leaders that will teach him more about the Christian faith and help him lead this new church well.

An ICR Canada partner and his wife in Southeast Asia have been serving for decades and have helped found hundreds of churches. They are getting older and can no longer manage the many congregations they oversee. Thankfully the structures our partner put into place while doing ministry can work without him by having local and regional church leaders elected by the congregations.

Please join us in praying for our partner, his wife, and the many church congregations as they adjust to the new ministry structures.

In a communist, Buddhist-majority country in Southeast Asia, ICR Canada partners are taking advantage of comparatively low pressure on Christians to plant more churches and train new Christian leaders and evangelists.

A 3-day training for vacation Bible schools for children in Southeast Asia has recently taken place. These programs take place with 200 children every week during long school vacations.

How do you share the gospel in a country where most people are Buddhist? ICR Canada partners in Southeast Asia have found opportunities in the natural rhythms of life. People are willing to attend the funerals and birthday parties of Christians, even if they aren’t believers, and at those events, Christians are able to evangelize to nonbelievers.

Praise God for these opportunities to share the good news!

Anh* felt called to move back to his home village and plant a church there. His extended family offered him some of their land to build a house for his family. Anh, his wife, and their five children started to do ministry out of the house and eventually ten others came to faith through them, but when Anh’s extended family heard of their house church, they got upset. They hassled Anh frequently to close the church, but he refused to be intimidated. Word got around to the rest of the village and the entire community began to threaten and even beat Anh because of his house church.

Today, the unbelieving villagers have resigned themselves to the church’s existence and the church now has forty-eight members. Praise God for Anh’s faithfulness and courage!

A church network in Southeast Asia has al goal of planting 12 new churches in their district each year. In the first 3 weeks of their efforts this year, they have already planted 3 churches, putting them on track to meet their goal. Praise God!
