Langley Youth for the Fallen: A Walk To Remember

Langley Youth for the Fallen: A Walk To Remember Langley Youth for the Fallen: A Walk to Remember is a memorial grove of trees planted for the soldiers who fell in Afghanistan.

We raised funds to purchase 162 trees and build a commemorative structure for the fallen soldiers and embedded civilians in Afghanistan. The Walk was opened November 11, 2011 and is enjoyed by thousands of people every year.

RIP Burd Sisler

Today, we pause to honour the life of Burdett “Burd” Sisler, Canada’s oldest known living Second World War Veteran.

At 110 years old, his passing marks the loss of not only a remarkable individual, but a living link to a generation whose courage and sacrifice helped shape the world we know today.

At The Royal Canadian Legion, we are reminded that Remembrance is more than a moment, it is a responsibility. It is carried forward in the stories we share, the lives we honour, and the commitment we make to never forget those who served.

We Will Remember Him.

Today, we pause to recognize the service and sacrifice of the more than 40,000 Canadians who served in Canada’s mission in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2014 – the longest combat deployment in Canada’s history.

As we reflect on this anniversary, we remember the 158 Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives and all those who returned home with lasting physical and psychological wounds.

We did not "stay back". We stood side by side with our allies. And the best and brightest of us paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Hope to see some of you at the Walk to Remember at 12 noon. There will be a short Vimy Ridge presentation.

Remembrance Day is always incredibly special.

It's even more special when you get to see your two favourite Langley-ites (yes, my folks), handing out poppies at the IGA.

I hope you all can make it out to one of the ceremonies in Langley tomorrow: Murrayville, Aldergrove, Fort Langley, or Langley City.

There will also be a small, short ceremony at the Walk to Remember at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum at 12 noon.

A worthy initiative! A trip to Juno Beach and the Museum there set us on the path to create the Walk to Remember here in Langley!

Despite their incredible sacrifice, there is no single monument on Juno Beach that honours the memory of the 381 Canadians who lost their lives on D-Day. We want to change that. Help us bring this first-of-its-kind Canadian memorial to life. Donate today:
