About 2 months ago, a bunch of cats were abandoned at our property. Unfortunately only 2 were successfully trapped, the rest, tragically, could become the food for the local wildlife if we are unable to secure them. This is the price that animals pay for human cruelty.

The 2 boys that were trapped turned out to be very, very sweet and very grateful to be out of the cold. Both had a severe upper respiratory infection and were infested with internal and external parasites. They are a son and his dad, very bonded. We hate to bring them to live in the enclosure without human contact. They love to be cuddled and have interactions with us! 🥺

Anyone interested to adopt them together?

Dad Theodore: 3 years old
Son René: 10 months old

They would be sooooo happy with their human family.

Please, help to find them a loving home! ❤️

Unfortunately, we have witnessed on many occasions this very ugly side of humanity.

Slight problem.

We rescue shelter cats. We focus on adult and senior cats that nobody wants. We do this not out of pity for these cats, but in reverence to them and because we truly believe they are golden and deserving of so much love!

We see bad and sad things almost daily - it comes with the territory - but what we witnessed today was painfully heartbreaking in a different way.

Young visitors, maybe in their early 20s, referred to Maxwell as "ugly" and then one of them facetimed her friend to laugh and point out how "disgusting" he is.

😶

Are we sad for Maxwell? Hell no. He is LOVED. He knows he is beautiful and so loved and, now that he has been rescued, his future is bright.

Our sadness is for those who could possibly look at THIS being and think to criticize him - who could think to look at ANY living being who has been through terrible struggles, and laugh at how "disgusting" they are.

Praying for anyone who can think this way to find a way to open their hearts to compassion and empathy, not only for their own sakes and the quality of the lives they lead, but so they can help make this world a better place with their kindness.

It matters.

💔❤️

A very kind, intelligent and compassionate story when humans interact with animals. For once, not a total horror story. Well done Japan.

Japan's famous cat paradise, Aoshima Island, is facing a bittersweet end to its feline chapter, with all its remaining cats expected to disappear within the next few years.

The island, once home to hundreds of cats and 655 human residents in 1960, now houses just 3 elderly residents and an aging cat population, all over seven years old.

At the heart of this story is the island's beloved "Cat Mama," a 73-year-old resident who has devotedly cared for the cats since 2013, even storing food year-round and cleaning their droppings from the island's roads daily.

Following a necessary spaying and neutering program in 2018 to control the overwhelming cat population, no new kittens have been born on the 0.49-square-kilometer island.

With Cat Mama's eventual departure due to age and the cats' natural lifespans drawing to a close, the island's ferry service may soon be reduced or cancelled entirely.

This marks the end of an era for one of Japan's most cherished cat islands, where tourists once flocked to witness the harmonious coexistence between humans and their feline friends.

The hardest goodbyes. 😪

The hardest goodbyes. 😪

He didn’t fight the needle. He just looked at his mom — like he knew it was the last time.
And it was.

That morning, Lucky was silent.
No meowing. No trembling.
Just that familiar calm he always showed — like he was trying to be brave. For her.

Because Lucky wasn’t just sick.
He had been fighting for a long, long time.

He took over 700 pills,
endured more than 100 injections,
survived 10 blood draws, countless ultrasounds, and 8 rounds of chemotherapy.

No hissing. No scratching. No running away.
Just quiet endurance.
A kind of strength only the bravest souls carry.

And his mom was there for every second of it.
She held him when the pain got too much.
She whispered over and over again:
"You’re doing so well, my boy. I’m right here."

And Lucky understood.

When the vet prepared the final injection, Lucky didn’t flinch.
He turned his head slowly —
and looked at his mom one last time.

That look said everything.
"Thank you for staying. I know you tried. I love you, Mom."

Her hands trembled. Her heart cracked in two.
She gently placed her hand over his.

He closed his eyes.
His body leaned forward.
And just like that...
he slipped away, quietly,
onto the table.

His mom collapsed.
She cried so hard, the room blurred around her.

No more needles.
No more pain.
Just peace.

Because when love is real, even goodbyes can be soft.

His name was Lucky.
And maybe it was never about luck —
but about love.
About loyalty.
About a little soul who fought to the very end, for the person he loved most.

If you’ve ever made that hardest decision —
if you’ve ever held on and let go at the same time —
you are not alone.

They remember.

And if love has a memory,
they’ll find their way back to you.

🐾 In loving memory of Lucky —
the bravest little soul,
the quietest goodbye,
forever loved by his mom.
📸 His final moment, captured in love.

Hello all! We urgently need some help with food. For the past several years, we were depending on a couple of regular food donations partners but due to a one closure and other new administrative restrictions, we unfortunately lost them. The past few months were extra challenging and we have a hard time making ends meet. We barely ever ask for donations but now would be a great time, if anyone can and is willing to help. Our sanctuary houses ATM about 96 unwanted, feral or unadoptable felines. It is challenging to provide all the medical and nourishment requirements.

We are happy to pick food donations or contact us for more details.
