Watercraft check-stops will be opening up across the province. These check stops are mandatory and help prevent invasive species from entering Alberta waterbodies. Those who bypass them may be subject to large fines.

Quoted directly from the government of Alberta website:

" Bypassing an inspection station when highway signage indicates that a watercraft inspection station is open while transporting a watercraft is a violation of the Fisheries (Alberta) Act and can result in a $4,200 fine.

All watercrafts must also have their drain plugs pulled while being transported on Alberta highways. Failure to pull the plug may result in a $600 fine.

Watercraft include, but are not limited to:

- trailered boats
- non-motorized boats (such as kayaks and canoes)
- inflatables ( such as rafts, kayaks and paddleboards)"

🎣 Fishing season is beginning to open up across the province! There have been several changes made on regulations so be sure to check the Alberta fishing regulations for the waterbody you are heading to, before heading out. Fishing Regulations play a crucial role in the sustainability of fish populations.

Review the Alberta Guide to Sportfishing Regulations, updated annually.

🐻 Yes! Black bear families live in Elk Island!

📸 Caught on camera: two black bear cubs exploring the park.

Wildlife thrives on natural food sources, so when visiting , never share your food, whether intentionally or through unsecured attractants.

Help keep wildlife safe and wild:
✅ Pack out all garbage and food scraps
✅ Store food and scented items properly
✅ Keep campsites and picnic areas clean

Remember, your behaviour today can shape an animal’s behaviour tomorrow. Wildlife that gets human food or garbage may start to seek it out, putting themselves and other visitors at risk.

Let’s do our part to keep wildlife wild and our parks safe. 🌿
